The colour of the below image is a bit dull - usually looks brighter pink

As it progresses it will create a slag (slug like flake) appearance

I found a youtube clip that shows an extreme leak

If you can post a photo of your timing belt cover like the first image or any other area of the engine bay, that may help members like Gipsy to give you further good advice

I'm trying to upload photos with no luck!

There were no splatter residue on the timingbeltcover DB, but the cooler looks like it is cracked.

The old engine Is out and at the moment I'm working on the new engine. Cleaning the intake manifold, changing timing belt, serpentine belt, waterpump, gaskets, thermostat, making a 1,5 mm stainless steel blanking plate 7mm hole (hopefully it gives no codes)

There is surprisingly many bolts on this engine, I had it under control....then my brother came and f****d it up! So thank him for the help or for the confusion?

Questions that remain is, valve clearance at 90.000km? Catch can yes or no. We have good fuel but prefilter 2 micron or not. Can I reroute the coolant for the egr cooler if I block it completely with plate and in ECU.

My thought on this car is, because it done 260.000 km, it has taken its toll for the environment. It deserves a healthy pension life. Gonna threat it well, engine and rust protect the frame.

Have a good one guys

I wouldnt be bothered with a catch can. Just do an egr block with a 7mm hole. Look up fourby4diesel on youtube if you have any doubts - he mostly works on 1kd engines and has plenty of info on what works and what doesnt. I had a catchcan, it was a waste of coin.

Fuel filter is worthwile but the stock filter is very good. If you get a prefilter make sure its mounted so it doesnt vibrate, otherwise it wont catch any water.
I might be wrong.

Landmann, if you decide on a pre-filter go 10 micron as you may be reducing the supply pump flow with 2 micron plus the OEM filter.
Is this the replacement engine? Have you looked at the original one yet?
It looks like you are giving the 90km aged pension engine the best chances of a good life :D
Its great to see your progress and good pictures as well.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Right! Maybe even building heat because of it being to small micron?

No i haven’t removed the intake manifold on the original engine, just the egr that’s om the pictures.
It seems to me that it is the same amount of gunk on the replacement as on the old engine.
Previus owner did long trips every week or maybe it have been cleaned.

Thank you, aiming at writing a how to when i’m done for others to follow.

I am using the head in sand method. I fitted a 7mm blanking plate when i did the water pump and timing stuff.
Never looked in the induction system but i assume there would have been a build up but it still runs fine.
I think what you have there is normal, yes clean it while you got the chance and fit the plate but i wouldnt worry about it.
There are 10s of thousands of standard engines out there running without a problem.
There was a few mechanics in this forum making a living out of scaring members, there was one that tried to convince members what was happening but got shouted down.
Just resist the urge to put a chip on it.
