Experience with the SAFARI ARMAX Snorkel? or go the V-Max?

Postby TBJ on Fri, 05 Jul 2019 3:53 +0000

Hey, so I'm putting a snorkel on my lux, after deliberation on what snorkel I want Stainless vs Safari, I've decided on a Safari, but I don't know whether to go for the Safari ARMAX or the normal V-Max, what do you guys reckon? The ARMAX increases the intake actual size, with modification to the airbox, would I need a retune for this? is this really beneficial to me or is it unnecessary? is it much harder to install than the V-Max? or should I not waste the extra $100 on it and just go the plain V-Max?
thanks

Put simply unless you plan to or have other performance mods, bigger turbo and aftermarket computer etc then the amax is overkill.

I would. Not much point trying to get more air in if ya not gunna do anything with it! The airbox is one of the biggest restrictions on our utes!

so better to not bother modding the existing airbox to 4in and go with the ARMAX, and better to go the Standard Safari and a new airbox?

As I said, only if ya planning on changing the rest of the intake. Turbo etc.

It sounds like you plan on doing it yourself.

5-15 Hilux the ARMAX is a major modification of the airbox. You have to cut the whole side out of the box. And glue on a new intake. (All instructions are freely available on safaris website to see what you have to do)

As stated before if you don’t plan on upgrading ECU, exhaust turbo etc. then don’t worry as it is not needed.

Is the snorkel for dirt roads/dust or water crossings? If it is the latter you might want to look at breathers for diffs and transmission as well.

I’m sure there is a thread here somewhere on it.
