Fuel warning water/or worse

Postby Bman on Sat, 29 Dec 2018 12:42 +0000

My fuel water warning light has come on and I'm a long way from a Toyota dealer, it's the weekend and I have 2500km to travel plus another 5000km in a week or so.
The light is not flashing.... There is no water in the fuel filter.
Any ideas as to what the light indicate when on?
Im suppose to drive back to WA with a trailer tomorrow but am a bit concerned. Other option is to wait until Monday and travel a few hundred km to a dealer.
Thoughts....?

Take the filter out
Check for water I the bottom of the bowl- suck it out or soak it up with a rag
Put the filter back in
Should get you home
Buy a spare filter and leave it behind your seat for next time
Good luck

Look at the sign on the back of you sunvisor. A solid light is a filter restriction, meaning it needs changing. A flashing light means water. Thats on my 2012 model, check your hand book. You can reset it by disconnecting the plug on top of the filter assembly then start the engine and with it still running plug the sensor back in. But if your towing would pay to put a new filter in

If you are going to pull it apart put a new filter in any brand you can get it will be better then what you have in and get same spare in case you have picked up same bad fuel

Solid light means your filter is starting to present too much of a restriction. There is no imminent danger.

Keep driving and replace the filter at your convenience.

Filter replaced. Battery disconnected for 1/2 hour. Light still on.
Is there a trick to it?

Trick is turn off ignition, disconnect the plug on top of fuel filter, start the engine, wait 30 seconds and then plug it in.... Light should be off. ;)
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
