Frequency of injector seal replacement 1KD-FTV

Postby hartster on Fri, 10 Aug 2018 2:45 +0000

Can anyone enlighten me please.

Why here in NZ would it say in the service schedule that the valve clearances and injector seals need to be done on the Hilux 1KD-FTV at 45,000km for models manufactured 2005-2011, but not on the ones after? What did they change?

There’s also some techs who are saying the injector seals need to be replaced every 45,000km anyway. Service interval is 15,000km here, so every 3rd service!

What are your views please. My Hilux is of course an Aussie one I brought over here with me, MY14 model manufactured Nov 2013.

Thanks

Didn't replace mine, ever. I know there was a problem with injector ratle with the models produced till begining of 2008, don't know if the seals have anything to do with it?

There was a recall, or customer thingy or whatever BS Toyota called it, where they installed a new type of injector seat and at the same time installed a beefed up injector hold-down clamp. I believe they also dropped the engine oil and inspected the oil pick-up screen for evidence of blockage, but only if any of the injector seats were found to have been leaking when they replaced the seats.
So......maybe the ones built after 2011 have the beefed up hold-down clamps and improved seats and are more reliable.

If it was me and I had gone as far to check the valve clearances, it isn't much more work to change the injector seats. They are effectively a consumable.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but while you are there it's a little more effort for peace of mind.
I might be wrong.

I did a 6 week desert trip not long ago and the only time my clearances had been checked was by the dealer at 80k, so probably didnt actually get done so at 170k i had a new set of injectors fitted and clearances checked, its a my12 by the way, November.

Clearances all ok and no seat leaks. Quietened the rattles down a lot, have to listen for the 2000rpm rattles now and cold the noise is even, used to sound like an old engine with a loose tappet, and that was from new. Dealers just kept saying, "its a diesel".

Original seats were in good condition.

Sounds like your mechanic just wants to screw you every third service.

Imagine if a mechanic charged every hilux owner for the job every 45k including new pipes but didnt actually touch them, he would pocket a small fortune, so what if he had to fit a second hand engine due to seat failure now and then under warranty, he'd be a mile in front.

And why is the service intveral 15k there and only 10k here, and many drop the oil at 5k.

Had my 2011 in for a cold start injector test. After 175,000km the printout showed all perfect.
I understand There were a number of improves in the MY11.
