Power loss under highish load

Postby Yowie on Tue, 30 Aug 2016 3:37 +0000

G'day guys,

Awhile back I took my 4.5m tinny up to tinaroo in FNQ and the hilux struggled towing it over the range. 3rd gear was fine and would rev all the way out but when id grab 4th it would loose all its go and I'd be back down into 3rd and just have to take it as it was.

Last week I had the same issue coming over the Coonabarabran range and was just as a ute with about 250kg on the tray. Was going fine in 3rd (3500rpm) overtaking a truck then grabbed 4th and lost everything and struggled to build rpm and gain speed.

Does anyone else have this issue? Only happens on steeper hills/higher loads on the engine.
I've had the injectors replaced but I'm not getting same economy as I used to on average 100km per tank less. Possible issue with the injectors not tuned?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Josh

It's got a new fuel filter and air filter. I was thinking suction control valve but wanna be sure before throwing parts at it. It runs alright in other gears so don't think it's a strainer issue. Definitely worth a look
No engine lights or lights on dash for codes.

Got it booked in for a run on dyno and check all the readings on Thursday.

Was thinking it might have a electronic waste gate issue?

Hi, can anyone please help with the oil pressure spec for a 2007 V6 4.0Ltr Hilux. Haven't used it for about 7 months, started it the weekend and now there's no pressure and a rattling engine! Cheers, Rob

Did you have the air con on? I'm pretty sure when the engines hit a certain temp they go limp till they cool down?
The air con will also turn itself off if the engine temp it too high as well so that's a good indicator of your engine running hot.

What size tyres you blokes running ?

The bigger they get the bigger the difference towing and going up hills.

32" ?

The biggest tyre on my cab.chassis has been 31X10.5, the difference between them and the original fitted 205R16C is quite noticeable.

With the 31x10.5's it drives 1/2 a gear higher than the standard 205R16C's.

You put 32" tyres on the vehicle and it is geared even higher again than the 31X10.5's.

When going up a hill and it won't keep pulling in 4th is IMO because final gearing with 32" tyres is closer to 5th gear.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response. I'm running 245/75r16 tyres

Havent really fixed the issue but so far done the following:
intake manifold clean
Turbo replacement
Catch can
Replaced SCV (recently been told when fitting a new one it has to be learned with techstream2 otherwise no benefit)

I have been towing a lot more and after big tows (1000km+ 1700kg camper) it seems to go a lot better and will get better after the first few hundred km's. Wonder if the computer self learns to be "sluggish" for round town.....also going to pull my cat out and check that it isnt clogged and also conduct a boost leak check on the engine. Can show you how I've done it and what pressure I used if you want.

Thanks
