RRP is $1950. There was cheaper places around, but they are serious amateurs..

Anyone used/ tried or had feedback on ECU tuning by "RD Teknik"?
undecided on going down the steinbauer path or to try a ECU ref lash.

ECU remap/reflash

Postby KTM525 on Wed, 08 Jun 2016 1:10 +0000

Hey all,
I just thought that I'd let anyone that's interested know what I had done to my Hilux recently.
I have an '07 model D4D and have been following the talk about chips and exhausts for years. Something about the chips or power tune boxes or whatever else they're called never really sat well with me for some reason. After talking to my mechanic mate he suggested I go and see the blokes at Extreme Street Performance in Queanbeyan. They told me about this new ECU reflash/reprogram that they could now do without opening the ECU and soldering any wires or anything like that. It's all done with codes they now have and programmed on the Dyno. He started talking about binary codes and such and as a result, really lost me and very quickly exceeded my knowledge of how these things work now.
Anyway, after some thought and talking with a quote of $2,700 which included a King Brown 3" Stainless Exhaust system my Hilux was booked in.
I returned pretty excited to pick my Hilux up and was quickly shown the Dyno printout. Standard first run produced a whopping 87.3 kW but after all their magic finished with 109.0 kW. Driving home I was more than happy with the increase in power and especially how much smoother and easier it was to drive as well. Pulled so much better up hills and I was pretty pleased with the results. This was done on the 19 April.
Jump forward a few weeks and I had a chance meeting with the owner of ESP who said rather excitedly, bring your vehicle back because we have more codes for the 07 model and can get more out of it. He started talking technical stuff and again, lost me in the details. My first response was, oh yeah, how much? He said nothing, just bring it back. I said when.
Well I have it back again and it is unreal. It is now putting out 122.1 kW, up from the original 87.3 kW and the power curve and torque are just unbelievably smooth right through the whole rev range. Drives even better again and I'm pretty happy.
The bloke that actually does the Dyno stuff told me that this is the first Hilux done like this in Australia, I think he meant tuned with these new codes like this but not to sure.
Anyway, just thought some people may have been interested in my results.
All the best

KTM, glad to hear you got some great results.

There's a few threads going on remaps already and I've merged your post into one of them, here are the others.

https://www.google.com.au/search?q=ECU+ ... gws_rd=ssl

I find it a little hard to believe, yours was the first Hilux done like this.... I'd be looking to clarify that comment from your tuner a bit more.
Cheers Rod

Thanks Rocket,
Yes I wasn't really sure about what he meant or what aspect was the first about it. Like I said, they really lost me with the technical stuff. I am happy with the results though.

$2700 for exhaust and tune for 122kw IMO is a bit pricey. I did a module and exhaust on the daughters lux $2000 for 151kw running 285x70x17's......... difference between module and ecu - not much really as they have all increased fuel, boost and other parameters. One does it externally - one does not..... so I think the conversation should be less about which is which and more about KW per dollar? Or bang for buck.....

Wowsers, 151 kW. You must be happy with that. Certainly sounds like you got a lot better kW per dollar than me.

Is it possible for you to put up your dyno print out for others to see ?

122kw (around 164 Hp) is the norm for most remap/ reflash and exhaust combo's. HKS will be around $1800- $2000 and will see you up around 135kw and you don't require an exhaust ( can get away with Muffler delete only) If I had to choose between reflash or HKS id go HKS. A individually tuned HKS for my vehicle over some boofhead soldering the ECU on his workshop bench will win out every day of the week.

The ecu no longer needs to be opened up to tune, that said, I'd be going with a hks or monster max and just save a bit longer than go with a reflash.

Hi guys,
finally got the new exhaust in. No DPF any more! Got a good quality 200 core catalyst instead, 70 mm tubing all the way and a very small muffler at the end as the engine sounds pretty quite after all.
At the DYNO now, car was found to produce 159,2 BHP with 340,5 NM at 28 C.
After installing the new software we got it to read 207,2 BHP and 443,7 NM
This is 48 horses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and over 10 kilos more
Please note this is an Auto transmission model, results where obtained running on the 4th gear only.
It is a different car all together!!!!
Seems that fuel consumption has dropped dramatically as well. I will update after running it for a full tank.
What was getting till now was 500 klm to a tank combined.

Great numbers posted. I just want to add that you can't really compare dyno figures between different shops, even the same dyno on different days will read differently. There are do many different factors that can alter the KW numbers. The main benefit with dyno tuning IMO is before mods / after mods testing.

They open ECU for remap, I watched one be done last weekend (Roos) on a Colorado and they had it open on the bench. Must say, I wasn't impressed in the slightest. This vehicle lost total power (had a chip in it that they removed for the remap). The owner not only lost $1700, but also 8Hp.
