HKS will be around $1800- $2000 and will see you up around 135kw and you don't require an exhaust ( can get away with Muffler delete only) If I had to choose between reflash or HKS id go HKS. A individually tuned HKS for my vehicle over some boofhead soldering the ECU on his workshop bench will win out every day of the week.

The ecu no longer needs to be opened up to tune, that said, I'd be going with a hks or monster max and just save a bit longer than go with a reflash.

They open ECU for remap, I watched one be done last weekend (Roos) on a Colorado and they had it open on the bench. Must say, I wasn't impressed in the slightest. This vehicle lost total power (had a chip in it that they removed for the remap). The owner not only lost $1700, but also 8Hp.

Well I can tell you some tuners don't, I've seen it in person, all through the obd2 port without opening the ecu.

Whether they open it or not, a reflash is still just a dump of a batch of pre determined changes, just like a chip.

Without a tune on a dyno by someone who has the gear and the brains to understand what they are doing, you are still buying a raffle ticket, just like a chip.

Never argued that, just the fact that they don't need to be opened any more. I won't be going with a reflash when I get around to it, I'll probably just be getting baileys to set it up, but thats down the track some time, got other things to be done first!

Yep, the piggy back ECU is the go. HKS F-Con iD.
Just need a decent calibrated dyno to tune the vehicle.
Forget the remapping thing.
The Roo.

Any real reason not to remap? Not being a smart as or anything but I had mine remapped and dyno run by just autos a few weeks ago. Got some nice gains out if it and they are very noticeable. Didn't need to outlay extra coin for the HKS to do the same job (I don't need extra functionality control from a piggyback so maybe that's why I see the remapping as a better option, for me anyway)

Edit. I guess it's all about the tuner. I wouldn't let those spastics at roo systems within 270 ft of my car.

There's no real reason not to remap (unless you want to chase more HP down the track with change of turbo & injectors). It can be relative safe if done by a reputable tuner (like you have with Just Autos). Just Autos had something on their facebook the other week about remapping, and it showed the difference with their tune and the like of poos systems where they actually solder the board. Roos just solder and what you get from that is the final result (could be a loss as I stated in an earlier post) where as a decent tuner tunes until a good result is accomplished. Hks really isn't that much more, maybe $500 in most cases.

Dropped off my 2014 D4D to the Horsepower Factory (HP-F) today for an NPC heavy duty clutch and tune.

1. They confirmed they do not open the ECU.
2. I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow arvo.

Ready to go, but living on the opposite side of the bay means I can't get back out there to pick it up until tomorrow.

yeah they've been doing more and more 4x4's lately with impressive results. when i spoke to them they said an exhaust was a must when doing a tune for the hilux to receive the full gains

Im currently running the standard exhaust at 180rwhp(unichip). Most aftermarket piggy back ecus (unichip hks or ecushop) usually stick with the std exhaust until upgrading the turbo.

Well, results are in for my ECU re-flash from HP-F.
54.7% increase in max Hp! :D Dyno sheet has been added to my garage.

The drive home was mostly highway but I can report the following:
- EGR is switched off
- Max boost is set at 20psi
- Exhaust sound is deeper
- EGT's are up by 50 - 75 degrees
- Fuel consumption is down by 1 - 1.5l/100km

And it is so much better to drive, throttle response, acceleration ect.

I would not be happy with the EGT increase.

Horsepower can be increased substantially without boosting EGTs, although perhaps not by 50%.(I don't know)

If you are over richening the AFR to chase horsepower, you are going too far.

Put up your dyno results . I know there in your garage but easier for everyone to see on here

first post so be patient

another company to try is Diesel Performance Solutions. www.dieselperformancesolutions.com.au

they have techs around aus who will come and do it onsite. i have had several lux's the latest i have is a 2013 D4D and have tried various chips including Steinbauer. Recently these guys did a remap for me which $ wise was a lot cheaper than the Steinbauer chip and the results are significantly better! A mate of mine also has a 2013 D4D and was running a SB chip and 3" exhaust and after driving mine (no exhaust at that point) has removed and sold the chip and had his remapped by DPS.

.....i have had to add a 3" to keep up with him now! the only problem i found with the remap was the standard Toyota clutch only lasts around a 1000km once its done

EGT's increased an estimated 50 - 75 deg, not %. This is at highway speeds when the temps would be at 150 ish, now 200ish. No big deal but a change I noticed worth sharing.

More time behind the wheel around town has shown there is ample acceleration and the first few gears can keep the ESC very busy.

As for posting the dyno printout in this thread, I'm just too lazy to sign up to a pic hosting site then learn how to post here etc.. apologies.
