map sensor and turbo

Postby dino12 on Mon, 29 Dec 2014 12:33 +0000

hi fellas, to quick questions.
1. where the hell is the map sensor located on a 2013 d4d. can find the map filter but not the map.
2. does the turbo have a waste gate? i was told it did but i thought geometric turbos didn't.

cheers, dave.

thanks mate. for some unknown reason my map sensor reads atmospheric as 11.7 psi instead of the correct 14.5 psi. 14.5 is correct as it's what very printout out shown on the techstream thread shows, 100kpa or 14.5 psi, which is atmospheric pressure barometric. have no idea why mine is out as this is simply an ignition on/engine off reading, has nothing to do with engine function, just reads atmospheric. my map reading under hard acceleration has never seen the high side of 23 indicating 11.5 boost, but typically will boost to 21, then is cut back to 20, meaning it gets 8.3 psi boost. has only shown above 8.3 psi boost on a very few occasions. mine is a 13 build which many on here seem to think has a 15 psi boost. i'm still totally confused. is possible earlier d4d gets 12 lb boost and the 2012 makeover model got an increase to 15. if anyone can shed some light on this it would be really good.
cheers.

thanks mate. mine has never seen anything like that, normally between 8 to 10. obviously something wrong. could be related to the faulty map reading. that 8 to 10 is with foot flat to the floor. has been like that from new.
cheers. dave.

It's supposed to be 6.5psi from factory. You will get higher in some vehicles.

thanks roo. i never imagined a modern diesel with turbo boost so low !!! every one else on this forum claims figures of either 12 psi or 15 psi. don't know why they all claim that then. most modern diesels are getting boost of around 25 psi, even had a diesel mechanic tell me these things get boost of around 15 psi. strange.
what about the map sensor giving an atmospheric pressure of 11.7 instead of 14,5??
cheers

over the weekend, took the truck for a run up the freeway in 100kph in third. came back a different vehicle. then took it for a long evening/night run at freeway speeds and now it runs perfectly. fuel economy on dash read out shows an increase from a full range of 740k to 785 over a distance of about 100 k of driving on the same tank i had the bad fuel economy on. . much better. took the truck to the dealer and a mechanic took it out for a run. couldnt fault it. like me. he brought his techstream out to the car and plugged it in, and all readouts are really great. it also showed the map reading as 101 kpa, perfect, injector feed back was great, one showing -.5 the rest -.2 or less. really great. have thrown my scantool in the bin , it's caused enough headaches. thanks to all who have offered advice and tried to help in any way.
cheers, dave.

I am just going on the specs of GISC.
When I do diagnostics, sometimes up to 15psi. Usually around the 10psi.
To do with the MAP filter, regardless of the readings, they should be cleaned at 10,000km intervals.
Carby cleaner, then compressed air. Pretty easy maintenance.

Look at the black oil residue on the rag. I see this all the time. A lot of MAP filters have never been cleaned.

Do an EGR clean
Best thing for them
Pulled my throttle body off and the EGR today
Dug out some oil and carbon shit
Put it back together
Blasted two $50 aerosol tins of EGR4 down the throttle body at 3000rpm
90% rattling noise GOOONE
2hrs done
Doing all MAP and MAF sensors tomorrow and installing a catch can

Hi dave, sorry to be a pain. Im experiencing the same thing with my lux, mines 2012 with d4d. My MAP reading is about 78kpa around 11psi ish. And when i hammer it foot flat it only reaches about 8psi. Mines started to run abit rough at idle and blow abit of black smoke when cold if u rev it hard. My values and injector volume all within specs too. Did u have same issues with urs aswell? Like the running rough issue aswell?

Mate take it for a good long run, a few hundred ks and get engine hot and clean it out (carbon i mean) then see how it goes. These new trucks feed more and more crap into the engines and need to be used. And yes mine idles rough and if you lifted the revs ran rough till about 2000rpm.
Cheers.
