turbo lag 2007 hilux HELP!

Postby Beeson. 1 on Thu, 21 Aug 2014 6:37 +0000

Hey all,
I have a 2007 4x4 3.0 turbo diesel hilux, (1kd-ftv)
And lately I have been having problems,
it won't hit boost till 2500 rpm, like I will put my foot down and it will be sluggish and feel like a non-turbo diesel, the when it gets around 2500 rpm, it hits boost like a 200sx,
I've pulled the turbo apart and it's all good no play or leaks,
all hoses seam to be ok,
Can some body help me please !!

Thanks

(Mods, sorry if this is already a topic, but I can't find it in the search)

Could it be an issue with an electrical trigger for the variable vanes? I havent looked at how they are triggered, I am assuming off the ECU vs RPM but what you are describing sounds like a big turbo on a small motor, takes a lot of CFM to push the turbo enough to get it compressing.

If you have checked the physical attributes then elimination suggests the electrical triggering of the vanes?

Or a big undetected leak.

I had one like that at work a while ago, but it had no acceleration till about 1000rpm, basicaly stalled off the line. Played around a bit and ended up being the stepper motor on the turbo. Think it shorted out after the wiring above the sump rubbed through and also blew the turbo ECU motor drive. No codes for the stepper motor either wich was strange.

I scanned it and it came up " control model performance"
I've cleared it and cleaned out my map sensor filter, and it made it a Lil better, so I ordered a new filter because you can't completely clean them ! Will let yous know how it goes

Pretty much the same symptoms as beeson, I’ve had a remap some time ago, but it’s just gradually got worse and worse. I’ve replaced the map sensor, I’ve done EGR clean, haven’t done the manifold pull off though. Start up is fine, just that bottom end of gears, Upto 2500rpm it’s proper proper, bogged out, soots like no tomorrow and then takes off once turbo kicks in. I don’t run any gauges so can’t see any numbers on turbo.

Get yourself a Bluetooth obd scanner and check codes. It will also give you real time readings to get some idea what's wrong.
Has a throttle controller been added at some time? Maybe before you bought the vehicle?
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

No throttle controller man, I’ve had it for about 6 years now, remapped for 4 and gradually getting Boggier over last 2. Definitely will, it’s one of these things I say I’ll get but never do. I’ll order one now .
