Error code P0122 after EGR clean

Postby tonymtber on Wed, 12 Mar 2014 1:06 +0000

OK so I pulled my finger out today & cleaned the EGR, MAP & MAF sensors &installed a Provent as well.

Put it all back together & started it up & get error code P0122 (Throttle position sensor low voltage).

Have checked everything & it all seems in place. My only thought it that the butterfly valve in the throttle body got moved when cleaning, but I would have through that the ECU would correct this (I dont think it was spring loaded).

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Yep you left the sensor plug off under the intercooler. Or it is not clipped in correctly

I spoke to Toyota about this; how often it needs doing and how much they charge. The Service Manager said that while it is not in the service manual, he would clean it every 25 000 km or so. They don't pull it apart and manually clean it though; they spray some gear in there that loosens and dissolves the gunk... supposedly. It costs about $75 a treatment.

The real reason I was speaking to the Service Manager was to complain because they had done shoddy job of my 40 000 km service, so he offered to provide a free EGR clean at my next service. So, I got it done with the spray. I'm not sure what happens to the dissolved gunk? Hopefully made it's way out the exhaust... I dare say it's not as effective as a full manual removal but maybe if you do the spray clean regularly enough it then it will keep it clean so that dismantling and manual cleaning is not required?
