Just did my first Techstream run. everything looks A-Ok. Car has just been for its 60k (3yrs old) and is currently on 62,500. This analysis isn't from cold however the car had done a short trip about an hour previously.

Hi my kun26 1kdftv 2005 hilux has no dtcs and all the live data is spot on (in comparison to you guys examples and to everything I can find out - but - the main injection period is negative micro seconds at idle not the 0 - 1000 specified. After injection period is 0 ( pretty normal I understand ) but nothing like the average here of 500. What does this mean? I'm nearly at the end of my tether. Main injection timing at idle warm no acc is 3 CA deg. It runs fine but no power driving.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I like to see them closed at around the 60 to 70 C degree mark. Some don't close, at all. This means that the cylinders are sucking down dirty recycled exhaust gases. At the end of the day, this will mean a longevity problem as the soot content is very abrasive. Good to restrict the flow of these gases going back through.

I got Toyota to give me the data on the injectors at the 140k service, and after reading through this thread and forum my injectors are on the way out and have to be changed in the not to distant future (only the #4 just out of spec). Engine still sounds good no real knocking sounds or black smoke yet.
I'm keen to know and if anyone can help me how much longer my injectors could last, what's a good brand (I've heard good reviews on Baileys) and what else is good to change, clean, code etc while injectors are being changed? Located in Darwin.

So right on time they are due for replacement now.

Hi Roo

I've just bought a Hilux for work and would like it if you could have a look at the values and see what you think, injector no. 3 looks a bit sus.

Its done 150k and the previous owner had the injectors changed at 100k

Hey fellas,

Finally decided to try my Techstream kit - data/readings here. My laptop runs 64-bit Windows 8 and using these instructions, the drivers worked. These instructions have been posted before and have a varying success rate.

Just wanted to get some fresh (and more knowledgeable) sets of eyes across my values to ensure that everything's looking a-okay for my 'Lux? No particular concerns - it's a bit noisier than I'd like but I wouldn't know how it compares to other diesels and HiLux's. My only comparison point is a friend's 2016 Isuzu D-Max so that comparison isn't too fair.

It's a 2006 D4D, manual transmission, with 128,000km travelled. Fairly old, but not very worn. It's had a fair bit of maintenance-related work done in the past year so I'm curious to see if the values are good and reflective of the new components. Potentially-related work is as follows:

  • water pump and timing belt replaced (March 2016),
  • MAP & MAF cleaned (May 2016),
  • HPD Catch Can installed (May 2016),
  • new injectors plus fitting kit (BDG, June 2016),
  • new SCV (June 2016),
  • new fuel lines (June 2016),
  • intake manifold and EGR cleaned (June 2016),
  • fresh fuel filter and serviced - valve clearances not checked (160,000km/96mth) (Toyota, August 2016),
  • intercooler flushed (September 2016),
  • coolant flushed (from the block) and new thermostat installed (September 2016),
  • FM100 (2 micron, secondary) installed (September 2016).
Not sure if this would affect things but I also have a snorkel installed (DENSO) and a digital speedo corrector installed (Marks 4WD).

Here's my Techstream data. Five readings - cold start (left for ~15hrs overnight), warmer (left to idle for 30m), then three seperate readings after one lap each time around the block. 31c (2m), 69c (29m), 83c (37m), 85c (40m), 83c (44m). Tried to be thorough

One last question - how can I read boost via Techstream? What parameter am I looking for?

Cheers for any insights you may have!

Hey guys

looking for some advice. I just purchased a 2007 D4d hilux a couple of weeks ago. I was wary about injectors etc as i'm aware of the issues. It drives fine, has good fuel consumption, no rattle on cold start and doesnt blow any smoke etc warm or on cold start.
It has a good service history and the injectors were replaced 15,000km ago in January this year with new toyota(denso) items at a cost of around $4000 to the previous owner. It wasn't done by Toyota but another mechanic however ('Ive rung and confirmed the details with mechanic that it was done). Half the reason I bought it was the injectors had been done recently.

Now it's pretty rattly when warm under certain RPM (not foot flat, light load around 1800 - 2200 ) so I put it down to normal rattles.

I just got Techstream up and running did a cold start test (haven't got around to warm yet) and to me it seems injectors are cactus? which if so i'm going to be really peeved about.. can they really be cactus given their 15000km old? is there anything else it could be?
Next question, if they are cactus do I have any chance or option of getting a replacement set from toyota (probably not?)

The other thing im wary of is if this other mechanic (Kmart Auto of all places) would of coded the injectors to the ECU? I don't think I can easily tell that without pulling stuff off? would that affect feebacks or nah?

techstream data for your review...

Update I've concluded it's rattley all the time cold or warm.
I took some data recordings via tech stream while driving between 70km/h and 100km/h and noticed the Target Common Rail Pressure and Fuel Pressure values sometimes vary by over 10,000 for a few seconds, is this normal while driving or no? I wasn't sure if when checking these values to identify SCV issues if your only mean't to check at idle or if the variance limit also applies to while driving.. At idle the values are ok.

did A warm test and values were in range for injector feedbacks as per below, but as above there still really no good when cold... Are the injectors stuffed after only 15000km? or is something else going on?

Fuel pressure needs to react fast, at all times.
Based on klms & what I see here, I'd say do the Scv first.

Your load is low, total volume pretty low also, main injection period short.
New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.
Cheers, Anth - Technician - 1KD-FTV

Check your injectors about every 10,000k.
WARNING check oil pickup screen is clear

Could false overboost readings be because of throttle valve being closed or malfunctioning?

Is the MAP sensor plumbed to the downstream side of the throttle valve or up stream ? is the boost guage fitted down or upstream from the throttle valve? if upstream it will show boost spikes when the computer tries for egr flow and closes the throttle valve. the boost gage can not see real manifold pressure if up stream of throttle valve.

similar to old mechanical pump turbo diesels having boost pressure sense in the turbo outlet not the intake manifold after the interooler. this made the pump see more boost pressure as the rpm rose and the pressure drop across the intercooler increased with increasing gas flow . this meant a tuning compromise of poor power at low rpm full boost or smokey at full boost high rpm the solution was to move the pumps boost sensing host and the turbo wastegate hose to a port on the intake manifold so both would see and regulate intake pressure not turbo compressor exit pressure.

Hello,

Greetings from Estonia.
Did my techstream recording today. 08/08 Hilux. MAF readings are way off for idle, sensor is cleaned but maybe it needs to be replaced.
Also Fuel Press reading jumps over 3000 when accelerator released, and around or over 2000 when idle.
Injectors look good, exept injector no 4.
Problem is increased fuel consumption. Any thoughts, all help would be appreciated.

Hi defcon.
All of the diagnostics here are for 3L 1KD-FTV
Not sure about the 2KD but your injector feedbacks appear to be very good

How many km has your engine clocked? Any modifications?
Have you cleaned the MAP filter?
I see you have cleaned the MAP sensor - what did you clean it with?

Cleaned MAP with CRC air sensor clean. Also cleaned MAF before. Did a longer run yesterday and MAF readings went to normal 7-8 on idle.
odo shows 234000 km. No mods, atleast none that i'm aware of. Don't know what prevoius owner did.

Fuel press peak is about 2700 kPa sometimes, does that mean SCV is on the way out or just dirty? Will try some STP ultra diesel system cleaner. Maybe it improves any readings for better or worse. :)

Thats very few km for a 2008
SCV is probably not worn out but I think you might be on the right track about something being dirty
Looks rather cold there at the moment
What sort of fuel are you running?
What sort of fuel economy are you getting?
How much worse is this than before?
When did you get better fuel economy?

Quite cold it is here. :)
I think the issue is bigger tires and rims. Running with LC 120 original 17 inch rims and 265/70 R17 Cooper Discoverer A/T tires. Now it's about 9,3l per 100km average when light on acceleration. It used to be around 8l/100km when 265/65 r15 and road tires.
Here we have something called Cleansystem3 fuel on a certain gas station.
Also on winter months they're selling winter diesel with pour point around minus 32 celsius.

Yep, Big rubber will do it especially if only doing low km/short start stop trips.
When i run 33's i go easy on the accelerator - can get close to same fuel econ as 30.5's but never as good on short urban driving trips
