Fault code p0047

Postby Arsnic on Mon, 16 Jul 2018 9:08 +0000

Hi I've got a 07 hilux last weekend I was driving along the beach and everything was fine then stoped and left it idleing for 10 mins hopped back in and went to drive off and was stuck in limp mode. Got towed of the beach and a mate meet us there there with a scanner and came up with fault code p0047 so either the turbo or turbo solenoid is stuffed so brought brand new turbo and solenoid and still no luck same codes coming up. When I turn ignition on and off the solenoid doesn't not move I believe it is ment to so guessing wireing? I have also been told that with having a 3inch exhaust it stuffs up the air flow of the turbo and what the ecu knows? Any help on this would be awesome

will be the "turbo driver" little box bolted to the fire wall somewhere close to the ecu... don't chase the unicorn trying to fault find and "fix" the fault code... The only other thing it could be is the loom has rubbed through and you have a short to ground (which would probably kill the driver anyway) looks like this.....

P0047 code issue

Postby mikstachop on Wed, 29 May 2019 9:42 +0000

Hey people,
I've searched this forum on this particular code to no avail.
Yesterday I cleaned the MAF sensor and map filter.
I also started to install a catch can but ran out of time, so re-installed OEM hoses.
This morning I've got P0047 code coming up on scan guage.
Engine light, ABS and traction control light flashing.
I've gone over all work from yesterday, seems ok
Any ideas?

The sound from the exhaust is also different... If that helps?

Left something unplugged when doing the map filter would be my guess.

Thanks for your reply Mitch.
Checked and re-checked all works twice now... Still no good.

https://www.obd-codes.com/p0047

If you’re certain everything is reconnected as before, there may be a split or crack in a hose or fitting that is causing a pressure (+ve or -ve pressure) leak.
Spraying WD40 at suspect locations (use the tube for accurate spot spraying) with the engine running, listening for small changes in engine noise (rev up or down) can help find a vacuum leak.

And if the engine is in limp mode, even if you fix the cause you may still need to clear the code before it runs right.

As suggested - check the filter and vac lines for cracks or splits

I'm guessing if I spray the lines it would bubble or something?
Or does it temporarily seal it (ie: revs up or down)

P0047 Turbo boost solenoid. Need help

Postby Critter350 on Wed, 29 May 2019 3:50 +0000

If you spray WD at a vacuum leak, it sucks the WD into intake and then combustion chamber, usually making the engine rev slightly higher, but have heard it drop lower too. Just listen for subtle changes.
If it blows bubbles it’s a +ve pressure leak. Soapy water would be better for finding these I guess.

When you cleaned your map filter, you did let it dry yeah? Maybe if the filter is saturated, it’s impacting flow. More likely small crack in the filter as DB suggests, or a split in a line.

Please do post the solution up when you find out though, so others may learn. Even (especially?) if it’s a little embarrassing.

Good posts from Boxhead regarding cracked MAP filter here:

Very small crack can cause overboost - give it a good visual first. They can get brittle so take it out carefully to check
