DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) on 2011 D4D Hilux?

Postby Hazeyboy94 on Fri, 18 Jan 2013 2:11 +0000

I've searched and only found an old thread that dates back a few years.

So all i want to know is if a 2011 D4D SR5 Hilux has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)?

Cheers.

No. D4D engines run egr's to control emissions.

So if the UK version runs a DPF , do you have an Adblue tank as well ? Or do you have to take it back to the dealer every 40 000km's to have them refill the Adblue system??

I haven`t one mine is a 2010 D4D, but no they don`t run an Adblue system, Toyota's DPF is a self cleaning variety, and theoretically should last the life of the vehicle
`The Toyota Hilux has been given a new look and new hi-tech features for 2012 – it’s had a new bonnet, grille, headlamps and bumper, plus new wheel designs, a new interior and the addition of a diesel particulate filter (DPF)`

I owned a Navara D40 with a DPF and spent more time that I care to write about developing a work around for these terrible things over the course of 12 months back in 2009. The terrible fuel economy in a 2008-2010 Auto D40 / R51 Pathfinder is well documented and mine was no exception until I removed the [insert expletive] thing.

It will be a very long time before I ever bought a vehicle with a DPF fitted.

I feel the same because the 2.7d Jaguar I used to have was fitted with a DPF as std was always a worry and had a few problems which needed hooking up to the dealers diagnostic at £100 minimum a time.
But to be fair I`ve not yet heard of any problems at all with the DPF equipped Hilux.

Heres a question - would a car with a DPF be easier to get rid of that entire system completely, as opposed to getting rid of an entire egr system?

You can put a blanking plate in. Some people get codes thrown up. Tho if you drill a hole through the centre i beleive this stops that problem. I think its monsterides that do a blanking plate with the recommended size hole

And dreams are free. As mentioned I spent weeks and I mean weeks working with engineers, programmers and exhaust technicians to develop a solution that would stop the D40s ECU from squirting in diesel on the exhaust stroke once the DPF had been removed. I gave up in the end and just put up with the famous 'white smoke' each time the ECU decided it was time to do a 'burn'.

As mentioned above the EGR needs a small hole but otherwise easy to do.
