hi im new to the hilux relm
but can any one link me to the ebay version that works?? as my hilux is the 2005 model before the obd2 can commication
it is obd1??? has the same connector under the dash near steering wheel
need tool and software to talk to my truck as it is playing up
have bought a cheapy from china like $10 one but i cant get it to work
so im asking for a recent link and the experience from one that works

im new to the toyota stuff i have a mitsubishi and i have the software and tools for that
im on the newtriton forums

just need to sort out this toyota dilema

This program works for 1996 onwards diesel
And 2003 petrol

Mine and your cars are OBD2 just different proctocals from the newer versions which is why the cheap Super Cheap and Repco OBD2 scan tool don't work as they don't support the right protocol for our cars. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly the codes of protocol we use

My car is a 2006 diesel and nothing would work other then high class $5000 dollar communication tools, however this teach stream works completely fine! I have a cracked version over 13 years expiriy so it will cost you nothing other then having to buy a USB connection VCMI Mini cable off eBay max price $20!! But the things you can do on this program is more then what these $5000+ tools can do!

You proberly already tried. But before buying a new cable check to make sure you changed the region on the software to Other. From memory factory it's set to European I had this problem where it wouldn't read my car I was getting a bit frustraighted. Untill I change the region and now works completely fine

Can't to right click and go to administer and run at 32bit? I know you can run different service packs. If not surly there's a program you can find on Google that allows you to run 32bit on 64

I think (from reading the previous 19 pages) it's more to do with the drivers than the program itself. Specific drivers are made for the cheap cables and aren't updated, your cable and driver needs to be designed for 64bit. There's a post on here that goes into how to get it to work. If you've got that, then the Techstream software is a bit more flexible, I think upwards from v11? will work with 64 bit.

hi guys got a cheap cable off ebay, same as sharps018s just a different seller, couldnt get it to install on windows 10 64bit, after reading the 10 pages tried installing a virtual 32bit xp and go it to run but it said techstream needed updating. finally got it to connect to the car after half a day of f$@#&% around just to find out that i cant select 1kdftv its not an option? any ideas, or anyone have a idiot proof place to get the software and cable thatll run on windows 10 before i lose my shit and burn my shitbox car with my laptop in it?

I've concluded I'm not supposed to play with this stuff. The Nano just did not work, despite taking two seperate days off work so the OBDII.com 'engineers' could remote access my laptop. This was returned and a Mini VCI ordered, but did not turn up. Three times. I'll just take the refund then thanks. Can I get injector balance rates on Torque? That works fine.

So I thought I would let others know my experiences of installing this on Win 10 64 Bit It CAN be done.

I Bought this cable (Nov 2017)

The CD Supplied had software and drivers included - but the instructions were vague and not for 64 bit. There is a link in the ebay listing to download updated software and instructions which I found vague still. There are plenty of links on the net for software and drivers. Be careful using updated drivers on older firmware cables that the new driver can brick the cable (apparently....) There are two clone cables out there - 1.4.1 Firmware version and a 2.0.4 version which has some improved capabilities - if you are buying a cable perhaps look into the better version (the one I bought was the old one at 1.4.1).

I checked the install packages using virustotal and it flagged the drivers but when I checked the unpacked packages I didn't get anything..... So I went ahead anyway....

BUT....

The driver package supplied (Version 1.4.8) won't install on 64 bit - but from reading lots of install instructions (google) I found that the driver package can be unpacked manually. There is a registry "hack" (edit) that registers the drivers for Techstream. As always editing your registry is dangerous - so just in case create a system restore point (search windows for this) and create a backup of your registry (just in case).

A couple of things:

The FirwareUpdateTool that they refer to using to check the cable - it doesn't work on Win 10 64 bit (and possibly on Win 8 as well). I did eventually read this somewhere else ONCE. So ignore that part of the instructions.

BUT - My cable is working as once it is all installed - just plug in to your OBD Port, fire up techstream and perform some of the basic tests listed on page 1 of this post.

It is important that when you connect you get the right vehicle in the drop down lists. The first list has SUV, Pickup, and something else. I used SUV. The second drop down list has a series of numbers - these are the dates of production of the vehicle in YearMonth - mine is July 2010 so 0907 - 1507 covers it. If you select the wronf range (as I did at first cos I didn't realise what the ranges were) then the information displayed is wrong and you won't get much in the data list....

Just a note that apparently Techstream wants to check for updates and stuff - so always switch off wifi / internet connections when using this or better yet install it on a dedicated laptop. There is also a counter that records how many times it starts without an internet connection (and won't allow it after 30 times apparently) but is easily reset in one of the .ini files - google it.

Anyway I am far from an expert in this sort of stuff but with a bit of perseverance and Google I managed to work it out.

Told by mech my injectors need doing.
2005 coming up on 180,000ks
Says the norm is to totally replace them and quoted me 3-4k...
Is there a definitive way to know what condition the injectors are in (noob here when it comes to more than the basics) and is his quote realistic?

Yep mate, ask him what the feedback values are or grab yourself a techstream and look for yourself. The parameters for the feedback etc are discussed here:

My guess at 180000kms is that they are worn. $3-4k is reasonable. Make sure you get new genuine denso injectors installed - they are about $1600 for a set on ebay. Its a job you can do yourself once you have techstream.

Remember the correction value is the amount the ecu has to alter the injector to get the engine to run smoothly, can be for other reasons other than a faulty injector as well, but I had mine replaced at 180k because I needed my valve clearances checked and got a set thrown in at the same time, I had one that was noisier than the others, sounded like an old fashioned noisy tappet. Had denso injectors and all genuine parts fitted by an diesel specialist for $2800.00. Made a huge difference noise wise, quieter than when it was new, and seemed to run smoother.
