I have a 2005 and the cheap Chinese mini vci and techstream work fine.
When you say it connects, how to you know this?
What computer system are you trying to use?

I didn't bother with my techstream disk, just went straight to Google and found the latest version. I think it was on a Lexus forum even but it was the same software anyway and works fine.

Can the trending graphs be downloaded and stored as graphs or is it only real time readings

The graphs can be recorded and played back afterwards. Not like an excell sheet though. Rec button should be on the bottom.

Sorry just read this, it just works, no password required.
I have seen the registration expired window flash up and then disappear really quickly. So far, so good, still working perfect.

Finally got round to using my Chinese Techstream and MVCI cable. All went well installing on the laptop (Windows XP 32 bit running under VMPlayer. Went to connect the cable to the car and got a "L Line" error. Anyone experienced this? Is it likely to be a faulty cable? My Ebay ODB2 code device connects to the car OK so figuring it is not on the car.

I don't follow. Did you succesfully connect to the car with Techstream, but it failed the cable check on the L-line or did it give you the error straight after attempting to connect?

after getting the error and running techstream again is it working ok? I wouldn't worry if it doesn't keep coming up.

Also what year is your hilux? Maybe It isn't compatible with techstream or OBDII whatever.

Marvin I connected the cable to the car and the system initiated a cable check which failed on the "L Line"

Adam, Hilux is 2007 and connects fine to my OBD2 device without problem. I don't seem to be able to get past the MVCI cable check (ignore it). I think Andy may have the answer with activating the USB on the virtual machine.

You need to install the cable drivers in the virtual machine too, not just techstream.

Marvin I connected the cable to the car and the system initiated a cable check which failed on the "L Line"

Strange, this is the first I've heard the cable check is done automatically after plugging in. This is supposed to be done manually. If memory serves me, the L-line check is the one where you have to switch ignition off and on again, something to do with programming mode right? If that's the case, can't you ignore or cancel it?. You should still be able to do normal diagnostics, which is what this cable is mainly used for around here anyway. If that doesn't do it, like Andy suggested, suss out the USB end of things like drivers, VM settings etc.

On a side note, what version Techstream came with your cable? If you want to try out a different version (either older or newer) send me a PM and we'll work it out.
Cheers,
Marvin
