Ahaha i just fitted mine a few weeks ago with 5k on the clock, and it wasnt too bad i though, Just got to take your time, soak the nuts in CRC and unbolt one of the heat shields and try and get plenty of leverage

Have fun mate 8-)

talk about doin it the hard way :)

as mentioned by others, remove a heat shield, use plenty of the good stuff, and then apply leverage (1 nut is best done from underneath the vehicle using a long extension)

gday there brierley,i stripped mine as well bud, they definitely need a good 2 or 3 days soaking with a penetrater, i used an 11mm socket and belted it over the 12mm nut, you can also get sockets that are made for removing stripped nuts,i cant remember the name of them but they grab the face of the nut and grip tighter as you turn, your local tool shop will have them, mine only had an 11mm one,but it worked a treat, theres not much room to hammer it on,but i got it with a bit of patience.
cheers Burty.

Why do you need to replace the studs? Not sure where you are located but have a look for a 12mm turbo socket or similar. I know Snap-on make a set.

Have a look on google mate.

Where can you get those sockets tht remove stripped nuts. I tried super cheap but they had just standard ones?
Managed to get the top one loose but stripped the one to the right of the dump. Didn't bother with the left side because it's sure to strip as well. I've been soaking it in Wd40 for 4 days now

Are you using hex head sockets? And the right size? I pulled mine off last week and besides being stupidly tight had no real dramas. Soaked them in wd40 for half hour then used some socket extensions and a uni joint to gwt the ratchet clear then just used a cheater bar and a heap of swearing till they cracked.

Yeah I used the single hex socket and it was a tight fit on the nut no play at all. I read through all the threads first before I went and tried it.

Ok guys, firstly Hi

I have tried in vain to get my dump pipe off. I have used all methods above and unfortunately rounded the head of one of the studs with my lack of talent. I have sent my helper off to get some of the sockets designed to remove stuck seized or rounded bolts ... any other ideas?

HELP

Take the manifold off with turbo and dump pipe still attached.
Will be easier to remove the rounded nut on the bench.

Get some heat in there man! Got an oxy, small blow torch? Heat the nut and try and spray the stud only with wd40 or similar. This will cool and shrink the stud inside the nut and help loosen it up.

As a last resort I used a die grinder and grinder the nut back to the tread on one side then chiseled it off. Didn't mess the thread to bad and it still had a good grip

I have bailed for today as it's getting late and I can still put the pieces back together. I might reattempt these few suggestions in the next few days once I have new bolts and studs if things go poorly. Are the turbo gaskets reusable and how difficult are the turbo oil feed and drain pipes to get off? I'm sure these are going to require new copper washers and gaskets?

Toyota didn't leave much room to play with!

One last question, I discovered I couldn't get a good angle at all on the turbo flange bolt on the bottom closest to the motor. How did everyone else nail it? I'm thinking I might need to cut off the rounded head one, luckly it's the closest to the tyre. The other top bolt I have removed complete with stud attached.
