Power Loss 1KD-FTV

Hi All,

i have a 2005 dual cab manual diesel, it has done approx 190000 kms.

in the past few months i have noticed that the engine is lacking allot of power. it is hard to take off without reving it to 1500rpm and most times when i press the accelerator the engine slightly increases in revs and then once it reaches about 2000rpm BAMM full power. this happens from first to fourth gear till the rpm is high enough.

what could this be?? i had the mechanic change the fuel filter (it was full of crap), clean the egr and intake system from carbon buildup.

i am confused on where i should start looking for a fix.

regards Metin.

Does it feel like your not getting any boost till 2000rpm ?

Turbo related maybe.

Any unusual noises during early rpm? X2 about it maybe being turbo related..

I also think it might be turbo related but how can i tell which part?
There isnt any weird noises at low rpm.

The stepper motor for the turbo is probably stuffed.

I had the scan tool plugged in and i could move the motor manually.
The problem happens randomly.

Might be worthwhile inspecting the intake manifold to see of there is a build of black gunk/crap.

So no fault codes come up when you used a scan gauge?

I do get P2008 when cruising at 3400rpm for over half a minute. But cleared the codes and nothing comes up when this problem happens.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor in the air cleaner housing. It's the sensor that is on top of the housing. 2 screws and it will pull out. Be careful not to touch the little bulb that's hanging there and only use the proper MAF sensor cleaner spray to clean it.

I cleaned that many times. But i used a waterbased degreaser (not acidic)

I'd be using the proper stuff mate, or at the least use Electrical contact cleaner, you want to make sure there is no residue left on the sensor

Popped into sydney toyota in waterloo on the way home. They cleaned the maf sensor and all is good, runs better than before and power is back with no limp mode at high rpm [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]
