Does anyone have a pic of the HPD installed in a 2013 - 2015 type 3 version?
http://hpdiesel.com.au/catch-cans/toyot ... -catch-can

Their pic of type 3 doesn't show the can placement

Thanks
Ivan

Here's my type 3 install on a 2012 SR5 with VRS, lead to believe it is the same as later models.

Thanks Brett, but that looks like a type 2 install?

There are 3 different types of kits available to suit the Toyota Hilux with the 3.0lt D4D engine. The air box and ABS unit vary within this range from 2005/2015:

Type 1: Air box with outlet facing towards the rear of engine early type 2005/2008 (OCC-B-THD4D-1)
Type 2 : Air box with outlet facing towards side of engine 2008/2013 (OCC-B-THD4D-2)
Type 3 : ABS unit with revised brake lines and mounting bracket 2013/2015 (OCC-B-THD4D-3)

HPD type 3 picture doesnt actually show the can install

It was a type 3 kit (OCC-B-THD4D-3) I installed.

I think the main difference is type two has 3 lines coming off the top of the ABS unit and the type three has 4 (VSC) requiring a two piece mounting bracket.

Hi guys, just got my catch can from HPD, I was expecting there would be instructions but there isn't. When it comes to engines I still have a lot to learn, from what I understand the catch can kind of replaces the metal pipe with the red arrow in the pic below? and is there a specific in and out point on the catch can or it doesn't matter?

I am in the same boat, looking at the HPD over the provent, but havent purchased it yet.
Thanks for that thread, its very provent centric, so assume install is similar/same as HPD?

My side hose is in and top hose is out.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure it doesn't matter either configuration with the HPD.

Top hose goes to the turbo outlet.
HPD catch cans are the best and Australian made. They are expensive, though. ;)

HPD type 3 install short hose from tappit cover to lower inlet on catch can ,
And long hose from higher outlet on catch can to turbo pipe ?

Is that right guys , cause it looks like the short hose is about 50mm short

Cheers guys

I picked up my new hilux yesterday and I went down to HPD today after work and grabbed a catch can from them. Excellent bit of gear and looks like factory finish. I stuck my finger in the tube which was removed to find a slight oil film inside after only 100 kms :o I am glad I did this from day dot :D

Took me about 1 hour to do as I really need to get some multigrips as its hard to use pliers on the clamps to secure the hoses.

I've all but decided to get the HPD over the Provent for my 2015 3.0 D4D due to the fact that it is simpler, gets good raps, and doesn't have a filter that needs replacing. However, just a couple of queries:

Firstly, there's no pressure valves on the HDP... i'm guessing that they are not required so long as the filter doesn't clog and restrict flow, which should be fine as long as you service it regularly. Restricting air flow is obviously bad and the HPD looks like there's no obvious constriction points other than the stainless filters over the holes. Would be bad news if these clogged. The HPD looks dead easy to drain away the oil by unscrewing (no fiddly drain tube) but how do you keep the (relatively) small filter holes clean? I'm guessing with a bit of degreaser and a toothbrush?

Has anyone noticed whether fouling of the stainless filters is an issue with the HDP unit? Any other quirks of the HPD system that I should know about?

Thanks!

Pretty easy, Dan. Just clean with degreaser after emptying the accumulated oil.
Dry with a towel or compressed air.
Re-assemble.
The Roo.
