This probably sounds like a stupid question but.... What would happen if I did fit a pillar pod to my 2012 single cab with the curtain airbags?

What would happen when the bags went off?

I'd hate to think. I didn't believe my 2013 sr5 would have had a airbag in the pillar because I couldn't understand how it could go off with the grab handle bolted into the pillar. But stuff me when I unbolted the grab handle and pulled the factory pillar molding away, there i saw a rolled up white fabric looking thing which I assume is at least part of the airbag anyway. If it is in fact the airbag I assume it blows out between the grab handle and the door if that makes sense.

Help with gauges fitting please?
I am about to buy 3x 52mm Autron gauges - the EGT/Boost (with AMPS), Oil Press/Water Temp and Dual Volts (with AMPS- battery2). After talking to Autron, I realise that a number of fittings are required which are not supplied, and being of unsound mechanical nouse, I am not even sure where the sensors should be fitted. Can anyone who has done this fit throw any light on this, preferably with pictures?

I am told the Autron boost gauge hose should be Tee'd into a hose in the engine bay. Autron supply a Tpiece of unknown size. Which hose?

The EGT sensor is supplied with a 1/8" NPT compression fitting, while the Beaudesert exhaust bung is a 1/4" BSPT - so I need to find a supplier for a threaded steel reducer bung 1/4" to 1/8" in a different thread.

Where should the Autron oil pressure sensor (1/8" NPT) be attached? Perhaps a Tpiece into the block where the existing Hilux sensor sits? Where is that? Do you know what fitting size it is?

Where should the Autron water temp sensor (1/8" NPT) be attached? Perhaps a Tpiece into the block where the existing Hilux sensor sits? Where is that? Do you know what fitting size it is?

I can work out the battery & AMPS connections.
Any advice appreciated.

I can't help with the egt or boost fittings but as for the water temp the easiest way is a 38mm hose adaptor that you fit into the cooler hose and the temp sender screws into it
I also think the best way for the oil pressure would be an adaptor plate that screws on under your oil filter.
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks 10 luxxxx. I wonder if there is an adaptor to connect the coolant sender to the same place as the factory temp sender?
I am still looking for good options to install the oil pressure sender and boost hose.
Anyone else who has successfully installed these? How did you do it?
Pictures would be really great? Thanks

Boost gauge instruction:

I put my water temp sender in this adaptor in the top coolant hose:

Good luck with the oil pressure.

great, thanks mow44u. Gradually getting the functions together I am chasing up an adaptor to allow both the original oil pressure switch sender and the new Autron oil pressure sender.

The Autron EGT sensor is supplied with a 1/8" NPT compression fitting, while the Beaudesert exhaust bung is a 1/4" BSPT - however the Autron engineer I spoke to suggested that the Beaudesert bung is way too far down the pipe and by the time exhaust gases get that far, they have cooled too much to register properly on the gauge.

I spoke to the same guy when I was putting in mine and he said the same thing.... But I did it anyway and don't have an issue. Most people (90%) install it there because its way easier to install than pulling the manifold off.

You can search around for an adaptor.... I ended up getting mine from a pirtek type guy that came into work

The factory oil pressure sender just operates the light on the dash. With the wire disconnected (ie open circuit) the light is off.

When i installed my Autron gauge I simply replaced the factory oil sender with the Autron sender and taped up the factory plug out of the way. As the new programmable gauge changes to red and beeps with low oil pressure it is a lot better system than factory. The dash light actually takes very little pressure to turn off and I would suggest that by the time it came on your engine would already be lunched!

Still working on the temp sender as that one goes to the ecu as well so a simple swap cant be done.

hi Deezell,

you say that you are still working on the temp sender; is this for oil temp or water temp?
if its oil, i may be able to help you out, as i just fitted AutoMeter guages (boost, pyro, water temp, oil temp, oil pressure).

Hey Krutch,

Water temp sender. I am thinking of drilling and tapping into the thermostat housing as I don't want to cut the top radiator hose.

Cutting a $15 dollar Radiator hose is less risky than drilling into the thermostat housing!

But others have done it without any problems....

I was hesitant about drilling into the housing and metal fillings in the system, then pulling the housing out, then getting the right tap....... so the top radiator hose was the easy option for me

Haven't had any issues in 8 months under all types of driving conditions.

I think if I have to drop the coolant then I might as well put it in the housing (taking it off before drilling etc).

Saves me buying more parts!

Hey guys

Looking at getting some gauges, already have chip it's EGT gauge installed, and have bought a boost gauge.
And I was wanting an AFR gauge. Has anyone fitted an AFR cause I wouldn't have a freaking clue how to at the moment but I know the lux is running like a gutless pig at the moment so I figure knowing Afr wouldn't hurt.

The other thing is I'm tossing up whether to buy the 2 o r 3 pillar pod, and what 3rd gauge should I go? What other gauge do people seem to be getting the most use out of?

Thanks
Cheers, Will
