Engine loses power - P2008 Error Code

Hi everyone, I have a question for all of you out there and wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what the problem could be :?
I have a 2006 T/D auto KUN26R with 83000ks on the clock. Recently it has developed a nasty habit of when overtaking loosing all power, going into limp mode and the malfunction indicator light coming on (the one that looks like an engine). It was due for the 80000k service so booked it in with Toyota in Cairns.
They connected it to their scan tool and came up with an error code of P2008 - 'Intake manifold runner control' from the ECU.
Toyota cleaned the manifold runner control valve and cleaned all connectors as well as the filters on the solenoids.
The fuel filter was quite dirty so was replaced. Thinking that this should of fixed the problem, but it happened again :( Taking it back and still finding the same error code, and after discussions with head office in Melbourne, Toyota replaced one of the solenoids which may have been at fault (it was very badly clogged with dust before cleaning it out).
Since all this has been done, the same problem occurred today in the exact same bit of the highway whilst overtaking a semi-trailer!!
Has this error code or problem ever happened to anyone before :?: Its getting quite frustrating as I dont know when its going to happen (only seems to do it when travelling at 100kph and go to overtake) and makes me second guess myself for when I want to overtake another vehicle.
Has anyone got any ideas? After all this, maybe I'm thinking it could be an injector faulty??? The engine is standard with no power chip but with an aftermarket 3" exhaust. Can anyone help please? :(

DTC No. - P2008/58

DTC Detection Condition - When actual intake air volume detected by MAF meter continues to be smaller than volume estimated from boost pressure and intake air temperature sensor, ECM determines that swirl control valve is stuck closed.
(1 trip detection logic)

Trouble Area - VSV for swirl control valve
Open or short in VSV for swirl control valve circuit
Intake manifold (swirl control valve)
EGR valve assembly
MAF meter
ECM

Hiluxboy,

Mate I'm having the exact same problem with the same mileage on mine. I've got an August 2005 SR Single cab KUN26R. Its coming up 'Intake Manifold Runner Bank 1 Circuit - Open'. She had the 80,000 service then I went for a long distance drive. First happened around the 82,xxx mark. Was overtaking a truck and then bang no power, not above 2500 rpm. Turned the engine off, was good for 200km then happened again (on the same day). Drove another 350km back to home, no worries. Then happened 120km into my next journey driving out to work while overtaking an AB Triple!!. When it happens I'm overtaking in 4th doing about 120-125 km/h

The only engine mods mine has is: Safari snorkel, Repco paper filter, 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust.

Gday mate
Ive had this same prob for about 3 years, but different code (P1251) which states stepper motor fault ridiculous but true, its been to 4 places been on 2 dynos and finally looks like being rectified after Turbo, ECM, sensors, etc etc etc were replaced to no avail

Without prejudice i found the manufacturer was not much help as it was out of their ballpark, If i were you i would find someone with specialist diesel diagnostic testing such as Cornells in Vic or similiar in your area,
Hope this helped

Cheers
Guy

I asked Toyota to do that as part of the 80,000 because it was heavy on fuel and I was too lazy to do it myself. Fuel economy has increased dramatically but still this intermittent error. The code is still active and is going back in tomorrow, I think they've stuffed up something during the service; possibly something on the intake bank when removing the intercooler, etc to take the lid off to do the valve lash inspection as part of the 80,000

I have the same trouble with mine , Im doing 100 klm go to overtake , all goes well for 10 seconds then with no warning loses power down to like 10 % . Bloody dangerous, I have a 2.5 in ex with no cat and straight thru muffler . I havent scanned it yet but my guess is overboosing . All filters new , EGR restricted too 12 mm, FMIC . Also noted EGT,s went to 580 odd post turbo
