Where is the themostat housing on D4D?

Postby pisso01 on Mon, 26 Dec 2011 3:14 +0000

As the title says. Ive had a search but couldn't find anything. I thought the thermostat would be behind the short alloy pipe between the engine and the top radiator hose but it wasn't in there so its either missing or is somewhere else.

Also whats are you guys finding your normal running around town temps are? I just put a gauge in it the other day and Ive found its running between 90 and 105 deg. This seems a bit hot to me and the air con is cutting out when its around the 100deg mark.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas, cheers.

Chris.

If your A/C is cutting out Chris this means you are getting very hot, have you checked your fan to see if all blades are still there and have you flushed out the radiator fins from mud?

Cheers Josh that did help. I was looking in the wrong spot. Its down at the bottom hose.

Yeah the fan and radiator is brand new. Ive just gone out and cleaned out the fins of the air con condenser and the radiator and there was a lot of mud and crap in there. Ive only been 4WDing once since putting the new radiator in. Hopefully this will solve my overheating issue. Ill be going for a run a bit later tonight so ill let you know how it goes. Need it to be fixed before going to Stockton Thursday.

Cheers fella,

Chris.

Chris if you take out the thermostat put it in a pot of water on the stove with a thermometer (from cold water to boiling). the thermostat should open at around 80 to 85 DegreesC once it opens turn the heat off and let it cool and it should close once it cools. If it dosent close or open it is U/S (if you pull it out and it is open it is U/S)

Cheers Josh. Will give it a go when I find a thermometer.. Just went for a spin after cleaning out the radiator and air con condenser and its all good now. Never went over 87deg. It is nice and cool tonight though so the real test will be tomorrow..

Cheers,

Chris.
