Breather tube on engine block??

Postby quiksilverz on Tue, 13 Dec 2011 6:54 +0000

Hi guys,

It may be a stupid query to this one, however when i did the 20K service to my ute and once i removed the oil filter i noted that there is a breather tube which is not connected to any hose and seem to be bolted into the engine block (it can be found left below to the oil filter and just behind the starter solenoid on Diesel engine), i wonder if driving thru water will cause water to flow into this breather tube so should i hose it up higher or will it be ok with air bubble in the engine bay?

Have attached two pics of this mystery tube.

And ive checked its not oil drain tube.

Have a look at this pic and you can see one oil drain tube and another mystery tube in engine block

Lemme know if any of your diesel engine has same or does yours have it attached to some hose or something?

Thanks

I think you'll find a small drain plug (got a hex on it) next to that mystery nipple, it looks like the lower drain c**k for the cooling system...see below
