So i fitted the HPD catch can this morning. took me two hours to fit and of course i dropped that damn intercooler pipe bolt as Roo warned - that was a massive pita to find.

anyway here are some pictures. also; on the bright side looks like i am not caked up with black shit??, i might avoid doing the egr blank for now. there is a small bit of oil hanging around but nothing to concerning.

Go a bit further and have a look behind the butterfly, that's where the problems really start

I'd also recommend that you obey the torque settings for the intercooler. When I installed my catch can, I found that the thread had been stripped by a prior mechanic. Didn't have time to fix it at the time but a week later when I did have time, I found that the bolt had been lost by this point and that the rocker cover had a slight covering of oil over it (only on the outside, interestingly enough - barely any on the inside).

Ended up replacing all the threads with M6 Helicoils and had to buy some new bolts (SCA had the right size - M6 with a flanged head, but in gold).

My local toyota mob stripped 3 out of 4 of mine and said nothing, i discoered 2 missing when i did my catch can. I don't know why they even undo it there, whenever I pull mine off i just undo the hose clamp just below. Bit easier and ya not disturbing any gaskets, or stripping bolts lol.

Wait! people actually undo the 4 bolts rather than the 1 hose clamp?

I just undid the hose clamp the on the weekend when I cleaned the EGR Valve, was as simple as can be to remove?

Makes it alot harder to sort out as this plastic inlet bung points back towards the rocker cover

Have the same plastic inlet - just to double check; you just run the top hose to the crankcase as usual then run the bottom hose to this plastic bung?

Just fitted my HP diesel catch can up. I was going to fit it like QLDminer but I thought checking the dip stick the hose would've been in the way but I guess the top does swivel.
I then went to fit one to a Prado 150 and it was opposite to the Hilux :o If I knew that I wouldve done the Hilux the same as you would've had better access to the dipstick.
The cans are the same so I'm guessing it doesn't matter which of the holes are in or out or does it. I did double che k earlier with Michael from HPD and he said to do it like I did but then the Prado is opposite....

Just read this hole forum and there was nothing said about why i might be getting smoke coming out of the can. Is it normal?

Hey so its coming out of the catch can, on start up idle for about 2 to 3 minutes when i take the lid off the catch can theres a mild but consistent breeze of white clear smoke coming out the top, iv fitted a provent 200 today. I dont think it will go away and stresing its an internal problem considering i just did the injectors about 2000ks ago. Thanks for your interest and sorry about the late reply... cheers

Would not have a clue. I'm having a feeling it might be the wd-40 i sprayed on the back of the turbo dump trying to get the nuts off, i change the exhaust as well as putting the catch can in and those 3 nuts were quite tuff, could it be burning off and filtering out?

Water in catch can Prevent

Postby Burb122 on Sun, 14 May 2017 2:38 +0000

Is it ok to have water, looks like condensation in my provent. And no oil. Just smells like exhaust/sooty. No trace of soot or oil. Just water. About 7 or 8 drops came out when I drained it. Traveled about 600 km since install

Hey mate, a quick search for catch can condensation shows a few knowledgeable responses about this. Consensus was that condensation is normal.

This was my HPD Catch Can after 3-4 months (during winter).

Hey all, quick one regarding the HPD Catch Can (Type 1).

Can anyone confirm the hose routing, specifically for the 2006 Toyota HiLux? Their instructions/images (here) show top outlet to rocker cover where Type 2/3 are bottom outlet to rocker cover. Most of their other installs are bottom to rocker cover as well.

Or does it not matter which way the hoses are routed for HPD?

Cheers.
