was just wondering if anyone has had any luck in finding out what the problem is. Im about to buy a 2010 sr single cab hilux, d4d and automatic and only 20000k's on the clock and it seems to do the same thing. Only thing done to it is a 2inch suspension and 2inch body lift.

Another hilux owner (05 SR5 manual diesel) checking in with this problem. I also have the occasional rattling noise when releasing the clutch in neutral, it goes away by tapping the accelerator.

Mine had a heavy duty clutch put in it before i purchased it too.

I'm having the same sort of vibration coming through the drive line, I can even feel it through the accelerator pedal. The car has only 20K on the clock and over revving to about 3 1/2 thou then dropping back to 2 when I punch it up a hill in 3rd or 4th. Having the vibration occur at around 1600rpm onwards just driving around town. Do you guys think that because the clutch is slipping it could be causing this vibration? Like a slight clutch shudder? Only started happening about 1000k's ago.

Any help would be much appreciated. I know for a fact Toyota aren't going to cover this one! Better off just replacing with a solid clutch get rid of the DMF..

Has anyone had any luck fixing this problem yet? i've tried different tail shaft, removed front shaft to eliminate anything that end, different gearbox mount and cross member, engine mounts look ok. Am thinking of trying a different clutch next. What clucthes are people running?

Yet another owner checking in with vibrations. New all terrain clutch.

Is there any word as to what is the cause of the vibrations

Can you describe the symptoms you're getting precisely?

1600-1800 rpm in any gear (more noticeable in 4th cause that's the rpm at 60 km/h) there's a harmonic type vibration that starts up that can be felt thru the whole cab. it's load related as well cause can't be reproduced when vehicle is in the air and also stops as soon as you back of the throttle. have tried a different tail shaft, gearbox mount and crossmember, checked engine mounts, only thing I haven't done yet is remove rear shaft and drive with the front only. if that's still no good my next step will be to try a different clutch and gearbox.

Really same problem as every one else.

D4D motor manual gearbox.

Vibrations in 3rd, 4th and 5th

3rd is around the 1700 to 1900 rpm under load
4th is 1600 to 2000 rpm speed at about the 60km/h mark.
5th is 1600 to 1900 rpm as well roughly.

will test these all to night for accurate rpm and speeds.

I find 4th the worst

I've just recently had a new rear diff installed as the last one blew up :( and due to that it caused the gearbox to spit 3rd and 4th gear.

so while the gearbox was out being fixed I replaced the clutch too.

I had a small load approx. 150-200 kgs in the tub that I removed a few days ago and the vibrations in 3rd got a little better the vibration was 1500-1600 to the 2000 rpm mark and now only 1700 to 1900 rpm

Test/Checks I have done so far.

1. I've sat idle and revved to 3000 rpm in neutral foot off clutch and no vibration. (test clutch plate for vibration/balance)
2. Sitting idle and revved to 3000 rpm with foot on clutch and in 1st gear (test flywheel for balance? as being in gear will hold/stop clutch plate spinning)
3. Checked all uni joints and all are in good condition and running in line.
4. Centre bearing has about 10-15mm of movement.

I did have a knock on take off almost every time when I first got it back and found that the centre bearing was about 10mm further back that before it was all pull down for gearbox fix. Once I had relocated the centre bearing to original placement the knock was gone. This also assisted in vibrations but not much at all.

Any help is much appreciated.

Not turbo related ? its a hell of a coincidence 1600 revs is where the turbo kicks in on the 3.0d

Has anyone checked the harmonic balancer? Could be out and resonating between 1700-1900rpm?

Since u find 4th the worse I would be looking at the main shaft in the gearbox. 4th gear runs on ur main shaft and 1st, 2, 3 and 5th run on the idler shaft. Maybe a bearing is damaged or has moved some how

The flywheel takes out most of the pulses

Very interesting, as I've spent the last few days testing it out and the vibration occurs only when in 4th gear. I had thought that it was somehow gearbox related therefore.

Unfortunately gearbox fixes aren't cheap and I only had it out a few months ago for a new clutch etc (was hoping at the time it was clutch related)
