Mate, Both Crossport and I stuffed around with mine and in short you need to replace the turbo as there is some funky voodoo between the stepper motor and the sensor and a several other parts in the chain such as the accelerator pedal etc...

Long and short of it... I got a second hand turbo with low klms on it... (less than mine had) for $750.... Bolt on and drive away, job can be done by a competant person.

Working at a hire company that has alot of hiluxs and hiaces we have come across this problem. The last one we had we managed to find someone(cant remember who atm) who buys the stepper motor directly from japan for around $200. Alot better than having to buy a new turbo just to replace the stepper motor

Yep... bolt on drive away....

With just buying the stepper motor Im not sure it will fix it. My stepper motor still worked but the codes from the scanner said it still had faults in the turbo line. Replaced the other sensor on the front and the code chaged but still the turbo was f'd... would be more inclined to go a good second hand job myself but if someone ever does replace the stepper motor please let us all know the outcome. Not saying it wont work just that the Turbo seems to be matched to the various bits somehow...

Just bringing this up again. I too have had a complete new turbo (insurance). I dunked the lux deep in a hole.
Spoke to Toyota about another issue, and got on to the stepper motor. Apparently in the past, Toyota would do a complete replacement for any codes concerning the turbo. Only recently, they've discovered there is a breather out of the stepper motor, which would act like a vacuum cleaner when going from hot to cold. I was told 90% of the time the main bearing flogs and it's all over. They HAVE repaired most of these stepper motors by changing the bearing and there like new again! I was told the breather is very small, but should be vented higher up in the engine bay.

I have not looked at this as yet. Might look this weekend. Info from berwick Toyota, Vic
Cheers....... Cory
