Looks like you have some water in your oil, sludge isn't good, the catchcan should be relatively clean oil in it.
Water in your oils ain't good! Keep a close eye on your coolant level because it could be an early sign of leaking head gaskets etc. It's also why it's good to change your oil frequently (5,000ks).

Are you replying to me?

My understanding was that condensation occurs in the crankcase?

Cheers, Gypsy
I don't think i've ever had to top up the coolant before, apart from a full flush.
I also just did an oil change this week and have done plenty in the 5years of owning the ute. They old oil has never been milky/sludgy. So hopefully its not a head gasket.

Cam, if the catchcan doesn't have sludge in it I would suggest cleaning out the hoses and checking it again later. If you had the catchcan on for the 5 years it probably has built up over time but ideally there should be no sludge.
Just as an example, I pulled my 80 series 1hdt down after 350 thousand k's and there was no sludge in there.

Gipsy, yeah the catch can definitely had/has sludge in it and of course i regularly clean it out. I've only had the catch can in for about 2years too.

Who can tell me whats normal with the Provent catch can? Below are some photos taken of my filter after about 5,000km usage. Quite black and a lot of oil on my finger after I ran it over the surface of the filter. Bit of sludge on the top by the looks. I thought these were meant to last 40,000km, cant see that happening right now.
Also get 50-100ml of water every 1,000km from the drain hose, more in winter...
