I would say this would help with the build up crap where this oily blowby gas mixes with the egr gas and forms the crud that sits in the inlet manifold and throttle body, but wouldnt reduce the amount of egr gas going in as thats a different process controlled by the egr system. It would deffinately help with the crud build up i rekon plus no oil going through the intercooler and sensors and stuff so thats gota be better right !

exactly!! in theory the hot EG mixing with the oil and burning it causing soot which is sticking to the walls of the inlet manifold, throttle body..... ect. if this fixes that problem imo there is no point blocking the EGR system that way it can function normally and not get any errors :D

Egr system only works when the engine is cold anyway? At least thats the theory behind them

Yep should be sorry bout that got confused with the plastic pipe maybe !

Pretty sure it working all the time hot or cold, mostly open at idle tho then closes incrementaly as the foot goes to the floor. That way its closed when the engine is producing power and needs clean oxygen during acceleration, then when the foot lifts off and were cruizin or at idle it opens up and lets the recycled exhaust gas in, works this way on most cars so im just assuming ours is no different - could be wrong!

Got the hoses and the unit on th bench and will be attacking it tomorow, i'll post up as soon as its sorted. Really cant wait to see how much this thing catches...

So, Keep foot to floor right? then no need to blank EGR, think I'm starting to pick this up. just drive like

I thought the egr system was there to raise combustion temps to achieve a better burn to reduce emissions, hence while the engine is not at operating temp?

Deffinately works hot and cold and believe it or not it actually lowers combustion temps a little, it only reduces emmisions by basically dumping some of the used gases back into the chamber to be burnt again meaning less soot is actually going out the end of the exhaust pipe..

I found this link pretty helpful in explaining...

Heya fella's,not wanting to steal anyone's thunder :) but this is by far the best (and cheapest) mod you can do to a deisel engine ;) This what the filter looks like after 2500km.... normaly this is as white as a sheet of paper. :o

And this is the oily crud the filter is catching

Now this has to be a "GOOD THING" 'eh'
Yea rite

Hmm looks good, is that installed in a D4D? Im installing mine against the side firewall near the brake master cylinder, all looks ok to go ahead EXCEPT that the inlet pipe that sticks out of the thick black air inlet hose is pointing the wrong way, it needs to be facing the other way somehow...

Image

Two options i guess, by a "U" shaped adapter to get it to point in the correct direction or blank it off and drill another hole into it on the facing the airbox side, any ideas fellas!

Can you attach it another way round like on the side of the engine bay? A U shaped pipe adapter would work to though

Trouble is when the intercooler is attached, the turbo outlet tube is RIGHT next to this fitting, making it pretty much impossible to bend a hose to go in a different direction. Have a look next time you pop the bonnet and you'll see what i mean.

Ive got everything else sussed out, placement of the unit and the fittings and tubing etc but just not where to run the units outlet tube into. It must be fitted back into the inlet tract AFTER the airbox and airflow meter

Theres no other inlet points other than this one?

Any diesel mechanics care to shed some light on this??

Put it back in at the front of the compressor housing, looked fairly simple when I looked at mine ;)

How do you know exactly where to plumb it into. i.e. where to take it out of the engine and where to put it back again?

Look again, with the unit fitted against the side guard the tube has to do a 180 degree bend to go back into that port in the air inlet tube in front of the turbo....
