Mate i think that you have had the best answer already. just use any of the top brands that will fit , just use something. How do you work out 'best'. No one has done a detailed test to see how much oil is in the return line, that would be the definition of best. Cheers.

question fellas, about how much oil should come out of the drain hose on the provent 200 i did a big trip over new years and got a bit come out maybe 3 or 4 inches from the bottom the drain hose where the tap fitting is up the hose. and since then maybe 20mm here and there every week week or two

Sounds like what I get, but I don't know what we 'should' get, or what would be 'normal.'

Pulled a few 1KDs a part that have had the MH Provent 200 installed.
The EGR clean on the weekend was interesting, as the vehicle had done 120,000kms when the catch can was fited.
Taken a part at 161,000kms, it was basically just a soot coating. No fouling or build up within the inlet manifold or the EGR components. Just a light coating of soot.
This is a very good post for all the people that have the Provent 200 fitted.
I just loved how clean the inlet manifold was, and a great result for people that want to keep it legal.

" the vehicle had done 120,000kms when the catch can was fitted.

It would seem not.

hey TRDLuxxy why the change to HPD? i know they both will do the same job but which is easier to service?
does it make the noise others have talked about on here? just asking because im looking at fitting a catch can but just weighing up my options.

Hey mate, I changed to the HPD unit for a few reason's.

- No need to pay for filters, hpd uses two filters and both are re-usable.
- No where to mount the provent 200, hpd is much more low profile and comes with a mounting bracket.
- hpd unit has a bowl that unscrews on the bottom to capture oil and has a dipstick to check the level.
- Can't pass up CNC'd billet aluminium!
- Top outlet swivels

Only thing I miss on the provent is the pressure release valve, no noise but I didn't get any with the provent... HPD is solid aluminium no springs and the HPD is easier to service for sure.

TRDLuxxy, are you saying that you need to change the filter in the provent?
I thought that the 'filter' is just a baffle that the oil sticks to, then just drips down to the bottom?
I thought that they were all like that.

From what I've been told the coalescing filter does need replacing, what interval I don't know as every engine is different and thats mentioned in the Provent manual.

I would say the Provent is more efficent at seperating the oil compared to the HPD.

Guys... just a workaround for the 5/8" to 1" hose, if you buy a 1/2" brass garden hose joiner (click-on type) it fits perfectly into the 5/8 hose, then the 5/8 fits inside the 1" hose, add a hose-clip and bingo! ;)
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

The 5/8 hose pushes snugly into the provent outlets anyway so why do you need the joiner?
