Hi Everyone,
I have the same problem with my 2008 KUN26L, 3.0TD 4x4, when I tried to overtake another car going up a hill and bam!! Limp Mode  ....Engine light on! It resets when you shut the engine off.
So from what I read, my first option should be to clean the manifold. Is it difficult to do, or should you have the dealer do it? any particular cleaning product or just clean rag would do?
If anyone has done it can he or she tell us about it, thanks!!!

Been a while since I've been on here and an update to my situation. Took my local Toyota a while to find out what was going on...they thought it was the EGR that was gone so they replaced that, which is all built into the intake manifold so that was all changed out under warranty. They finally found the problem in late May/early June. The sleeve in which the wastegate actuator feeds out from the exhaust housing on the turbo was leaking out soot so the turbo wasn't getting full boost. So when the engine was under high throttle input, the fuel was put in at the correct rate but because the boost was lacking, it would put it into limp mode to protect itself. Managed to get a new turbo out of extra care. Took some fighting

Hi Squid_87,

This question is a bit off topic but did you get noticable power and/or torque when you fitted the 3" exhaust and snorkel?

It also could be soot build up in the air intake from the egr valve. It is causeing the swirl control valve to not open when at higher speeds. It takes about 8 hours or so to remove, clean and re-install the air intake manifold urself if u dont really know wat u are doin. If u are goin to do it urself just take a lot of pics on where stuff goes and put caps over the common rail and injectors. I had the same problem with mine

Nah not really mate. Snorkel is more for water crossings. If I was to do it again I wouldn't waste my time with an exhaust system. The hassle I've had with finding insurance being a 24 year old male. They class my 2 inch lift and the exhaust as two performance modifications, no matter how much I try and explain to them that the aftermarket suspension is much safer then standard.

really sorry but p2008 does not come up for the injectors.
Hiluxboy wrote:Hi everyone, I have a question for all of you out there and wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what the problem could be :?
I have a 2006 T/D auto KUN26R with 83000ks on the clock. Recently it has developed a nasty habit of when overtaking loosing all power, going into limp mode and the malfunction indicator light coming on (the one that looks like an engine). It was due for the 80000k service so booked it in with Toyota in Cairns.
They connected it to their scan tool and came up with an error code of P2008 - 'Intake manifold runner control' from the ECU.
Toyota cleaned the manifold runner control valve and cleaned all connectors as well as the filters on the solenoids.
The fuel filter was quite dirty so was replaced. Thinking that this should of fixed the problem, but it happened again :( Taking it back and still finding the same error code, and after discussions with head office in Melbourne, Toyota replaced one of the solenoids which may have been at fault (it was very badly clogged with dust before cleaning it out).
Since all this has been done, the same problem occurred today in the exact same bit of the highway whilst overtaking a semi-trailer!!
Has this error code or problem ever happened to anyone before :?: Its getting quite frustrating as I dont know when its going to happen (only seems to do it when travelling at 100kph and go to overtake) and makes me second guess myself for when I want to overtake another vehicle.
Has anyone got any ideas? After all this, maybe I'm thinking it could be an injector faulty??? The engine is standard with no power chip but with an aftermarket 3" exhaust. Can anyone help please? :(

it will not be a injector. u will need to check and Clean MAF sensor. then check the VSV swirl control valve circuit for a open or short in the system. either maf or short the intake manifold could have a carbon build up and jamming the swirl control valve butterflys from moving. after this is checked check if the egr valve is stuck open(check how much volts are going to the egr valve there should only be getting 5 volts. if all else fail probs have to get the ECM CHECKED OR REPLACED. See boxhead for technical info I am sure he will have it.

check your boost pressures when wide open throttle. if your turbo stepper motor to the vain control is sticky or sometimes the circlip will pop off. this will cause an over boost situation ( hence why it on happens overtaking) and the system goes into fail safe.

just a quick thought.

CAREFULLY pop the circlip of and the vain control rod should move very easily. Make sure you do this when the engine is cold or you will be frequenting a er somewhere.

Just a thought . possibly a badly blocked or cracked map filter

blue arrow shows the crack and yep that little crack can make a heap of problems

Under the black intercooler cover some a black and white some a gray black like the pick. Make sure you remember the way it comes off as it has a locater.

Let us know how you get on. I think you are over boosting tho. Just my two cents

Have the same problem with mine. Did a scan and the Intake Valve Runner Solenoid came up.

Yeah i had the P2008 come up on mine too..

100kmh cruise control overtaking a truck on a highway and engine light on, no power, roll to the side.. not a nice thing to happen.. symptoms for me were not kicking down when going up hills, turbo was overboosting (i saw it hit 18.9PSI) the most i have EVER got previously was 15.9PSI.

P2008 on my smart meter, i had it happen to me 6 times in 4 days, so after looking it up i pulled off the intercooler and found a split in a vacuum line connected from that little grey solenoid that Boxhead posted a pic of and the other end to the EGR manifold.. i thought 'pisser, found it' and fixed that problem.. but no difference.

So i took it into workshop and they found a dead short in the vacuum control switch which caused the butterflys to not open and close in the egr and was throwing the codes.. there was quite a few of them in stock at toyota, so i assume they have had to replace them before.

replaced it,cleared the codes and im off again. Here's a pic of vacuum control Switch that dead shorted if anyone's interested.

Update : happened again to me over the weekend.. 80kmh zone on cruise, overtaking lane up a hill. took off fine, halfway up with traffic / semi's all around me limp mode no power.. bloody dangerous..

rang mechanic, on holidays, cant look at it for 3-4 weeks.. not happy.

Im going to pull the intercooler off tonight and check all the hoses / check for splits as BH has mentioned..

Hi mine is faulting the same and I have ask my mechanic to remove the inlet manifold and egr and clean and replace do you think this should solve it! I have been told to replace
Them but can't see why if they can be cleaned? Thoughts

Usually this code is caused by the MAF sensor being dirty.

Roo. You got in before me. This is correct. Also non gen filters will also throw this code.

Which filters are we talking exactly air? Fuel? To make the code, also what's the maf sensor love cars when they are good hate them when they play up!!!!!
I also blocked the vacuume supply to the egr just to try it and the motor runs so much better!! This is after the faults not before
