Oil in intercooler

Postby Nick# on Mon, 09 Apr 2012 6:55 +0000

Hi,
My 08 1kd has oil seeping out of the intercooler at the join on the right hand side, it has only started since i had the injectors replaced(about 6-8000kms ago) so im not sure if they left the seal out when they took the intercooler out. I plan on buying a new seal tomorrow, but i dont there shouldnt be any oil in there?
Has it done a seal in the turbo? could have happened ages ago.
Cheers,
Nick

I'm also interested in this, as my intake also has plenty of oil present

went to toyota this morning, it is normal for there to be oil in there.
But it turns out when my injectors were replaced they left off the seal to the intercooler so thats why the oil is coming out.

There should be no oil coming out

The oil in the intake system comes from the breather in the rocker cover that goes into the turbo.

Yes it is common for oil to be in the system. If you have a leak at the top of the pipe to the square flange at the inter cooler , I would check the bolt tensions , they are only 6mm thread (10mm head) and screwed into alloy it is common for them to have issues. If a tech over tightened. The gasket is steel and some type of rubberized coating.
I have seen some vehicles come in for valve clearances and first time seeing gp vehicle there are bolts missing or different types installed and even where the threads need repairing or worst case , helicoil repairs.
