Hey guys i'm about to go overseas for a bit of a winter break. I will be away for 6 weeks do you guys recomend anything that i do to the lux as it will be sitting in a shed for that amount of time?

You're not far from me, I can look after it for you if you want.... so long I can take it off road /Jokes

It should be fine for 6 weeks, just disconnect the battery or buy a 4 stage charger and trickle charge it whilst your gone.

Had an old L300 that I had left sitting outside for nine months, put in a new battery and it started first go, no prep, nothing and a couple of weeks later it was driven from Adelaide to Melbourne with no dramas.

I have often wondered if a D4D Diesel Hilux could be stored for a couple of years (Maybe up to 3 years) without being started or driven and if it would suffer and damage internally..anyone got any knowledge on this issue??

Hey Rich,
I see a few issues with that.

Diff and gear box oil is very corrosive. If you buy a diff from a wreckers and pull the crown wheel out you can see the tide mark from were the oil came up to. Above that mark the wheel is rusty, like really rusty.

Same with gear boxs. Only experiance is with manuals not auto's.

Once you start to use the item again all that rust turns to like sand and destroys everything. And if pit marks are left from the rust it removes the hard facing on the gear and its stuffed.

6 weeks would be fine. If you store it in the weather I would not leave it much more. Indoors out of the weather 3 month would be fine imo.

Diff breathers add to the issue as this lets the elements in.

Due to an extended work assignment I had my 2013 D4D Hilux stored under a carport for just under a year; the batteries didn't survive but the rest survived just fine. I've been driving it for three years since then without issue.
