I think they should have 4.1 diff ratios, rear e locker, 265/75x16's, onboard compressor as an "Offroad Package" that buyers can option......

5 speed auto in the D4D's would be good too with a shorter 1 st gear.

More fuel capacity would be nice.

If the various companies can fit 140+ litres under there, surely Toyota can do something toward that.
An iron block on the V6 would be nice too

So the silly liners on the open deck alloy block don't move around when you boost it over 10 psi

Hello Just chatting with my local dealer yesterday was told about changes to SR 5 from august build as has already been discussed here 17 inch tires, track, stability control 7 air bags & a few other goodies, was told price to go down by $1700.00 only.( might be keeping the extra few hundred in his own pocket) still quoting around three months for a color vehicle. No increase in tyres on SR models. 8-)

I emailed the dealer who I'm buying my hilux off as soon as I sell my hsv and he said the opposite...

"As far as we are aware you might get a slighty different bumper and grill and a extra price tag of about almost 2k cause we assume wont have the manufacturer rebates."

So I just got another email from my dealer.......

"We have a blue one in the new spec due in mid August which does have the 17' Alloys and traction control but we are not sure on the price until mid August sometime. We think it will be a small increase."

I got a quote on a current one the other day (about $6k) discount on lease.

Would imagine the new spec looses the factory allowance to the order of lets say $1500-2000 :D

Oh well, when its time to buy maybe the discount will be back in full.

i think the first thing toyota need to do is go back to its roots as a WORKING truck. the manual is far too high geared for a work truck. who wants to do the ton in 4th? not a lot of us i suspect. i like the motor though lack of lowdown is an issue. i towed a heavy trailer for 10 hrs last week. fuel was around 6kms per liter(diesel) my mates v8 cruiser did better, so fuel consumption could improve. i miss my 2.8 offroad. gears were perfect. if you want 20inch alloys and lots of poncy chromy stuff, thats fine, but for me anyway, i want the no frills, proper geared, reliable truck that toyota WAS famous for, and why ive owned them for years. this is my last lux until they get their shit together. rant over.

Well they (Toyota) need to do something as Nissan has upped the anti with the navara now coming with 140kw and 450 Nm. That is a big increase over the old one and with that the fuel figures have got better with a claimed 9l/100km.

I e-mailed my stealer for a price and details on Tuesday, he has not even replied. Got a read reciept though so he has opened it. Oh well plenty more stealers around to talk to.

Cam

The 1st gear in the auto D4D is twice as high as the manual....hence no engine braking in low range with 33's

I agree with your sentiments entirely....bare bones vehicle....vinyl seats and floors.....casstte radio...everyone upgrades their own radio anyway.....larger guards and 32's standard....FJ cruisers comes with 32's standard so theres no problem with drivetrain stress if they are worried bout it.

Optional offroad packages should be offered - 2" lift, rear locker, long range fuel tank,

Hey Cam,

I would seriously doubt those figures.

I don't know any Navara driver who can come close to the fugures they claimed on the older motor configuration.

Add 32's and you'll be lucky to do 13/14L per 100kms.

The power figures look good, but if it drives like toi old one then the torque and pwer is only availabel in such a small rpm range it really makes it a bit gutless.
Nissan should have released the V6 they are getting in Europe.

That would have smashed the Hilux in private sales.

Good luck with your next purchase, considering you don't keep the vehicle that long I'd look at a V6.
Cheaper to buy, service and very nice to drive.

Cheers
Matt

Hey Matt,
Hilux's don't get the same fuel ecconomy as stated by Toyota either. I would not even concider a datsun. Have owned many in the past and they slowly went down hill till 2006 when I gave up. Might have a look at the Isuzu, it sounds like it has the goods. No idea what to do.

Cam

The first tank of fuel in my hilux when it was bought got exactly the 9.1 per 100km stated for the diesel auto.....i remember being surprised that it was spot on back then.

Have you considered a triton Cam?
