New to this forum & luv the site.
Chasing the answer to this question. Had an ARB bullbar fitted to the ute & now with the camper or box trailer hooked up if you push the hazard lights they flash once then don,t work. Toyota told me there is a problem with over loading a circuit or something & I need a new bit of wiring. It gets better, if I fitted a genuine bar Toyota would fix the problem. But now its ARB's problem. Has anyone else come across this problem & who did the repair work? If you didn't know about this sorry guys, but if you got a genuine bar no problems I guess

Mine does the same.... same bar and have an ARB rear step, hmmmm?

Will have to get my trailer out this afternoon and try that... Whackywombat and Dave... when you say they flash once and then do not work ... does it blow the fuse or does it start working again if you disconnect the trailer?? I would not think that having a different bar would make a difference to Toyota...all the wiring is still the same as their bar... and I would not think the globes are a higher wattage.... so where is the overload??? Furthermore... If I hook up a tandem trailer with several lights on it would it overload the circuit too?? Will get back to you guys after I have checked mine... Cheers TOMUCH

OK I couldn't wait... just did mine now and the same result... have spoken to Toyota and they have the car booked in on Wednesday .. I also took one of my tralier globes out... and all the other lights worked..... Does anyone have a genuine Toyota front bar out there with a trailer connection...can you try this too?? if you are having the same problem then Toyota should fix it ... will let you all know after Wednesday when I get the car back... I have seen this problem on a lux with a genuine Toyota bar. Same problem, my dealer told me if I had a genuine bar its there problem but cause I got an arb bar it's arb's problem. Load of sh*t if you ask me. You have an arb bullbar (correct) and your local dealer is going to fix the problem?. I'm going to ring Toyota direct.

Yeh mate they said they would have a look at it... I did a little experiment.. I replaced the 12V 18W globes in my boat trailer with 12V 5W globes...(I don't recommend this as I don't think its legal.) and hey presto... the hazards worked correctly with the trailer connected... I beleive it a problem with the flasher unit not being able to handle the extra draw of two more sets of globes...the ones in the bar and the ones on the trailer... I will be mentioning this to the dealer on Wednesday... Cheers TOMUCH

When I hook a trailer on it only flashes once very quickly when locking/unlocking. Apparently the "load" on the wiring is only just enough to support its own use and not power other things - like trailer lights. So when you press the hazards or the lock unlock it has to "share" the load asross the circuit, Brent

hey just an idea, might be a fix, which is to install LED lights on the trailer which should reduce the power consumption.... just a thought?

Yep, led lights on trailer, hazards work, globes on boat trailer, hazards won't work! Toyota obviously never took towing & electricals into consideration!

Yep.. Ive got LED truck lights on the back of my trailer and the hazards work fine with them (standard bar though)..

They told me that it is a known problem and that there is a tech notice out on it...The problem is too much current for the flasher to handle... they have a wiring loom with a couple of relays that reduce the current required for the front indicators in the bull bar to operate...They then hit me with the old if we had of fitted a Toyota bar we would fit it for free... but because I have an ARB Bar, they will supply the loom at no cost but fitting would be approx $100... what a rip off... he also told me that because I had so many after market modifications fitted it would take much longer than if it were a standard bar.... I laughed at him.... think I will just make my own relay loom..... can't be that hard... Cheers TOMUCH

Geeeez,
"it is a known problem and that there is a tech notice out on it" from TOMUCH, this sucks! Should be for free. Lux owners can't help it if they had to complete their vehicle properly by add after market gear to bring the Lux's up to scratch! Similar to their tech notice on the front weight with their own geniune winch bars, they had to up the wieght capability! :roll:

Where do you find these notices, Toyota dealers info only?

Don't think toyota will supply you with the tech info.

These part numbers came from the items supplied by toyota to ARB to fix my hazard lights.

But wait the dual battery setup is in the way. Looks like led globes to sort it out after all

Yeah the Tech Notices are for Toyota Empolyees only.. The guy at the dealership would not even let me see it... let alone print it out or email it to me... but can see his point... if he got caught... there goes his job... Cheers TOMUCH

OK, well got the Lux back from Toyota today after having the relays fitted for the hazards... They tried to double charge me... First of all they said that it would cost about $100 for the installation. This was coz the relays were free under warranty but the labour was not due to the non Toyota bar... OK, so I agreed to pay... then the invoice staes $90.90 for fittment if front bar wiring... and $90.90 for fittment of relay switches and repair earth lead on AUX battery... now the wiring for the relays is the wiring for the front bar... so i refused to pay for that... as for the repair to the earth lead,... the "mechanic" took it upon himself to repair what he deemed to be a poor connection... not that it was falling apart... just didn't look neat... and then decided to charge me for it... without even giving me a call to get the OK... well needless to say I refused to pay and after about 30mins of arguing... now closing time... they just removed those charges and sent me on my way...
BTW.. I also asked them why their eng oil was $75 per 5L... and asked if it was synthetic... no was the answer just normal 20 / 40 W... think I will provide my own from now on... keep alert.. they will always try and sqeeze more cash out of you at every oportunity... Cheers TOMUCH
