D4D Hilux verses D4D Prado...

Postby TOMUCH on Mon, 05 Mar 2007 7:15 +0000

I was just reading the latest 4WD Monthly. They have an article on the nex Prado D4D.. (page 47) They have written that the D4D in the Prado has 7kWs more power (not much I know) but it produces a whopping 67Nm (410@1600 - 2800) more than our Hilux D4D
(343@ 3200).. thats a lot to miss...They write that Toyota claim this is due to Exhaust Design ,Cam profiles and tuning...anyone heard anything to back this up... should we be looking at a cam upgrade to go with the mandrel exhausts that a lot of people are talking about??... Comments anyone... TOMUCH

I think the Hilux manual gearbox (R151 i think) and 4 speed auto is only good for 343Nm of torque. The V6 punches out 376Nm in 5 speed auto (different box to auto in the deisel) and 343 in manual. Prado has better gearboxes in both petrol and deisel and auto and manual and can cope with the extra torque.
