Fuel filter

Postby Scratchblades on Mon, 04 Dec 2023 4:55 +0000

Guys

Had my lux serviced 8 weeks ago and every few days I have to pump the primer where the filter is,

Sent a photo of my filter across to my mechanic, 4400 for a major @150k service and they don’t even change this

Pretty lame, don’t use foxmanns auto in Sydney.

Btw would this be causing me to have to prime the pump every morning. Image

Short answer, yes.
Not so short, a blockage in normal flow of the fuel will result in an occasional need to prime your system. Replace the cartridge, prime and see how you go.
If you still need to prime after a few days, you may need to bleed the system, but this is unlikely in the newer vehicles.

Scratchblades, if your filter is blocked you should get a fuel warning light on the dash but yes that filter in the pic is pretty well past use-by. Shameful that it wasn't changed on a major service but as I have been informed, Toyota dealers often don't change it until the warning light comes on... Also shameful engineering practice
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

If you are having to prime the system every morning most likely the anti drain back valve in the fuel filter cap is not working (jammed with sediment or failed) and/or there is small air leak somewhere.

Hey Guys I’ve replaced the entire original contraption and put a genuine filter in the unit & the western filters “Filter” id forgotten that id not changed that one in 7 years

The entire saga has been most annoying to say the least.
