Diesel filter hand primer

I noticed that my hand primer can be pumped a few minutes after pumping it up until it won't pump anymore, if that normal?

I have been having problems with intermittent power loss, could I have an air leakage?

If you pump it up and it goes hard, that's normal. But it can also be an air leak which prevents the fuel from being 'sucked' into the supply pump (injector pump). There is only one pump and that's the one on the engine, if there's an air leak it may prevent the required amount of fuel going to the pump.

No indicators (fuel light) on the dash?
