I have a 2011 big last facelift, having troubles with intermittent power loss. Replace the fuel filter about 400km ago before the problem so I don't think it will be that. Interesting that there was no fault codes? Any help would be much appreciated

I just found the negative terminal to the battery to be loose, also cleaned the MAF hopefully it was that . Any thoughts?

I also noticed that I could push the hand primer on the diesel filter assembly, is that how it should be or should the hand pump not be able to me moved once primed?

No the primer does go soft, but should be able to pump it hard. Did you drain the filter? Open the tap on the bottom of the filter and pump the primer, fuel (and any water in there) should come out... Catch it in a glass jar and check for water.

Negative terminal has no bearing on the fuel delivery, it's mechanical but it could point to something else. The diesel doesn't need electrical input while it's running under normal conditions.

I'm sure some armchair expert may challenge this though

OK I see you have no lights. If it is the filter there is a light, but air leaks don't put the light on. Who did the replacement filter? Sometimes the top seal is not properly seated causing a leak.

In agreement with everything Gipsy has said so far in both threads. Just remember that fuel delivery isn't the only thing that'll cause power loss. Blocked or impeded air flow can also cause this issue, wouldn't hurt to check your air filter as a starting point.

As you said fuel to the common rail doesn't need electrical power, but for the 1KD-FTV it is needed for the ECM to control the injectors and a lot of other sensors etc that make the engine run. The loose negative connection if serious enough to generate a significant voltage drop would have triggered lots of other symptoms and potentially DTCs though, so in this case agree with you its most likely not the issue.

Intermittent power loss and no active codes could be an air, fuel or electrical gremlin which is not tripping the 2 trip detection logic, so may be worth also checking if there are any pending or history codes that could be linked to your issue.

True ptommo but I'm keeping it to the simple for now, electrical comes later
I found the inlet fuel line to the filter a problem on mine, just check the tube for a good seal, they do perish and split with age.

Any issues with the ECM would eventually throw a code.

What brand of filter did you use and as said air leak on the filter put all new seals in happened many times before

I have had not trouble for a week after cleaning the MAF sensor however I did get 2 x p0102 today so I am guessing I have a dieing MAF sensor or a bad wire to it, interesting is I didn't experience the power loss before the p0102

I pulled the diesel filter out today to make sure I had no air leaks, I was surprised about how dirty it was after 1200km I took a photo of it but I am unsure about how to upload it on here.

Bad batch of fuel, if you know where you got it from, then let everyone know NOT to go there again. 1200km is only a couple of tanks ... Unless you have a long range tank? Might not hurt to look into how difficult a tank cleaning is gonna be?

Got a new Denso MAF from rock auto and problem solved so far also more power and way better L/100!

Had same issue with my sons 2010, intermittent power loss and no engine lights or codes. He limped it home from a trip and I found the filter housing full of black sludge, replaced the filter and problem remained only now the power was sluggish above 2000. Dropped the fuel tank and pulled the fuel sender unit and found the screen was embedded in a layer of black sludge at least 5mm thick in the base. Cleaned this and now the car runs much better. Suggest the previous owner had some bad fuel and over time the algae got jiggy with it causing the slime.

Yeah, old diesel fuel and the sludge that forms is definitely a "No Fun" game. I had it in my tractor a while back. Hell of a job to clean it all out.
