Particaly Drowned. Please help!!

Help please! My not so smart son has driven his 07 duel cab diesel hilux into a small bog hole and done himself a mischief. While trying to get himself out has filled his airbox up with water. How you ask? Inner guard on passager was missing, letting muddy water get sucked into intake.
Car stopped and now won't start.... still turns over but. have removed intercooler and was a little water in it and some in throttle body.
Can the engine be saved? And what else can I do to remove any water in engine.

Thanks guys.

Short answer, maybe!

Before even trying to turn it over, remove, clean and DRY anything that potentially got wet ... Air box, right through the air intake system to the pistons, remove injectors or glow plugs (or both) turn engine over until no more water is coming out (even mist).
Pray you haven't already bent something, put the cleaned and dried bits back together and keep praying.

How long is a piece of string? I've even seen a tail shaft with water in it.
As much as we like to hear the outcome of these ones, not many seem to want to let us know how they go ... I wonder if it's just shyness or something more, like maybe embarrassment?

Yeah agree completely, just saying that once it has been dipped, you need to check and fix absolutely EVERYTHING. Fuel tank, fuel system throughout, air intake system throughout only gets you home, EVERYTHING else keeps the vehicle lifespan up to scratch is all I'm suggesting.

If the engine turned over you might repeat might be ok... You need to make sure there's no water anywhere in the intake system or fuel tank. Was the lesson learned??
Most likely there's water in the fuel stopping it from running but if it turns over you may have saved the most expensive damage... Water lock, that breaks and bends stuff big time.
