Hey All, has anyone had an issue with needing to prime their fuel system on random days? Only on first start up for the day? Every week I have to prime my hilux once or twice to get it to run. Will fire up initially for 20 odd seconds and then it just stalls and needs priming. I do have a pre filter, and the bowl is always full. Change both the filters every 5-7000kms. And I do have a long range frontier tank, so I’m not sure if this is assisting the issue?

Check all the hose fittings that they are tight... Mine did this too and it turned out to be the outlet hose on the pre filter. You only need the slightest air leak and the fuel is sucked back towards the tank, even if the bowl looks full, the line to the tank drains back under gravity. I just cut the end of the hoses to make a new tight fit on the barbed fitting and made sure the hose fitting is tight. No more problem

Interesting side note, if I parked the lux nose up it would do it as you described but nose down I noticed a fuel leak around the pre-filter outlet hose thus pointing me towards the solution. It's probably worth just tightening up the hose clamps first and see if this solves the problem

You beat me to it Gipsy, but as you've intimated, maybe start by parking nose down Highlyluxurious to see if you can identify which hose join is leaking. In an older vehicle I had years ago it was actually the "Pliers" clip holding the hose on the top of the tank. I changed it for a proper (staino') hose clamp.

Filter housing is notorious for mis-threading. Same symptoms on my old lux after changing the fuel filter. Took a closer inspection of the filter housing to realise what the problem was

If all the things above are ok then it could be the anti drain back valve in either the prefilter if it has one, or main filter cap assembly if the pre-filter doesn't.

The filter housing could be worn/cracked if you are changing the filter every 5 to 7k kms. The stock diesel filter is usually good for at least 40,000kms unless you get a bad batch of fuel.
