Timing chain

Postby 241steve on Sun, 14 Aug 2022 6:12 +0000

Does the engine have to come out to do a timing chain on a 1gr-fe hilux? I wimped out and found a mechanic that advertised he works on hiluxes to do a clutch and timeing chain I dropped the car off went there a week later f$@#&% had happened the next week I went there the gearbox was on the floor the week after that I went there the motor is now on the floor half in pieces. f$@#&% knows how much money Im going to be giving the mechanic. Its coming up to week 5 Im worried next time i go there the diffs will be on the floor.
Is it normal to take the motor out to change the timing chain?

Yes why I sent it to the mechanic I didn't want to do clutch in the driveway at home I didn't think the timing chains would be that hard .

You dont have to remove the engine, just the radiator.
I might be wrong.

He may find if easier to pull the engine because the gearbox is already pulled out

$3600 I was worried as it was going to be a lot more. The mechanic supplied all parts genuinme toyota rear main and water pump dayco timeing chain kit I assume exceede clutch the invoice only said heavy duty clutch. I think they looked after me pretty well Ill send it to them to get a few more things done to it. It doesn't drive any different but i like it a bit better now. I want to go 4 wheeling he's getting me some prices for lift and better wheels hopefully next week or the week after I like the car. It still cant make it up the a driveway I regularly visit with out selecting 4wd the prado could as it was constant 4wd hopefully muddies fix that.
