Should I buy extended warranty from dealer? 2012 70,000km

Postby SteveD1984 on Sun, 20 Mar 2022 8:02 +0000

Got a few days to decide. $2400 for 3-4 years I think. Vehicle was privately owned since new and looks and drives like new, but it is a 2012. It has full service history.
Company is "Integrity extended warranty"
I'm highly skeptical, but I'm not too mechanically inclined.

2012 Turbo deisel workmate.

Two and a half grand sounds a bit rich what are the stipulations on the warranty do you have to have it serviced by then every 6 months

I don't recognize the mob you're discussing, however it all depends on which mob you get. I've had both good and bad experience with "Extended Warranty" mobs. Look closely at the fine print and some places will allow you to buy your own extended warranty from the mob you choose. Just remember it should only be a few hundred. $2500 is Wwaaayy too much.

What does the warranty actually apply to? Take that into account as well. I've had a warranty from a dealer that was basically useless.

I got extended premium warranty on my AU3 Falcon Sedan when I bought it in 2005, best thing I ever did.
This is what I had replaced under warranty:
Power Steering rack x2
Central locking motor – All four doors
Seatbelts – All seats
Diff x2
LPG filler
LPG Mixer x2
Transmission x2
Steering Column
Radiator x3

As soon as the warranty period was up, I sold that hunk of shit.

Had I not selected the extended warranty on the car when I bought it, I would have poor all the time, or it would have been parked up and forgotten about.

So, in this instance, and in my case, the extended warranty was most definitely worth every cent.

It depends how lucky you are... It's a lot of money and if the vehicle has been properly serviced and low kilometers most of any expected problems have already happened. Many of these 2nd hand warrantees are just dollars for the dealer and don't cover much... mostly a big cash bonus for the salesman. Read the fine print and get the vehicle checked by an Independent mechanic such as your local NRMA or equivalent. Regular services are your best insurance. ;)

Skrewdriver it's good for you that you got your money's worth but that was a new vehicle? You sure it wasn't an ex taxi? Those last au falcons were pretty ordinary and if it was 2nd hand probably got a hammering from the original owner...all those problems are more likely to be a vehicle that was driven into the ground... Or underwater! 2nd hand is a whole different kettle of fish.
I once bought an XB falcon van 1 year old 2nd hand (in my shed) and it was a beauty, I wondered why it had new carpets until I found the sills were full of mud  so it probably was written off after the floods and re-birthed :o

No, it wasn't a ex Taxi. My parents had a cab in Maitland, been around them for years, so I knew what to look for. My AU3 was sold new by the dealership that I bought it from (and worked at, at the same time) it was a department of health pool car.

I think it was a Friday afternoon build. All in all, it was a POS, the only advantage was that it was dedicated factory LPG, so running costs were cheap as chips. Looking back, should i have bought it? No way!!!

Lesson learned? Company cars can be good but it all depends on who drove it :?

Yes absolutely a poorly built car! I bought a brand new Datsun 1600 and when I later traded it the dealer told me it has been in an accident... Before I bought it, so we never really know the history of any vehicle we buy, new or old!

G'Day SteveD

My Dad was a Panel Beater and we built VW beach buggies, six wheel drives etc. etc. etc.

When I was about to put pen to paper on a new '12 D4D I asked salesman for a discount as I didn't want the warranty.

The look on his face said everything.

He offered $500 to stop me talking about not wanting the warr. !!!

If you are not mech. it is warm and fuzzy to have a warr. , but how close to a toy. dealer are you going to be when you might need to claim ?

Ng, as far as I understand it is illegal for a dealer to wave the warranty, it's called a "statutory warranty" because the laws prevent you or the dealer from signing away your legal rights. It's all there in contract law.
Those extended warrantees don't normally mean a Toyota dealer is necessarily involved, more details in the fine print as to who fixes any claims.

G'Day Gypsy

I hear u man, I'm sure you are 100% correct.

I was just trying to give ppl an idea of how to get/scare salesperson into giving a better deal.

The discount was gr8, but the look on his face was priceless.

You can get a lawyer and argue that the warranty does not expire on a specified date

BTW - This is old and not exactly what I remember finding, but gives you the idea !!!

Hmm I think I might leave it, that Integrity company has a ton of 1 star reviews. My Hilux has bugger all km and full service history so I think I'll risk it.

If anyone gets the chance to buy Alianz extended warranty (top cover), GET IT! I had a Land rover discovery, and in 2 years Alianz paid out $13,000 in warranty claims. I was stunned. Will never buy another land rover though.
