Blue smoke after idle help

Postby BigBop on Tue, 14 Dec 2021 2:21 +0000

If I let my 2013 1kd idle for say 10 mins I notice a bellow of blue smoke when I take off, it is also using a little bit of oil.

Now if I don’t let it idle for long and just drive it as normal I don’t get smoke nor oil consumption.

I have also noticed that there is a oil residue coming from the 4th pot around the exhaust manifold.

No smoke when driving, under load, nothing changes, it’s only when I let it idle for extended periods that I get smoke and notice the oil consumption over day 5000 kms. I have to top up around 600ml in between services.

I was thinking maybe them valve stem seal is cactus.

Do these engines burn a little bit of oil normally.?

Note: no power loss.

Thanks

Dont idle for too long, the engine is not under any load and the oil is consumed because of low cylinder pressure. The piston rings are designed for higher pressure than you get at idle so the oil is able to pass the rings to the cylinder. 2 or 3 minutes should be enough and drive carefully until up to normal temperature.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

I'm with Gipsy on this. A diesel engine is designed to "work". A petrol engine (by comparison) is designed to "coast". Let it idle for a short period to warm "above icey" and then take off gently. Drive smoothly & gently until the engine is up to temp and then you're good to go a little harder.

It could be the valve stems seals but its pretty rare. Do you have techstream, might be time to check the injector values.

Or better still, drop the oil and check for a blocked oil pick-up as a result of the injector seats failing and injector blow-by.
I might be wrong.

YES it is!
Hiluxxury, isn't the oil pickup issue prior to 2012?
