Negotiating price for new Hilux?

PostPosted: Mon, 02 Mar 2009 10:01 +0000

Just in the process of getting another new hilux, with the economy being down and dealers doing it tough,
what should I expect to recieve?

I will be going for a Diesel SR5 dual cab, Auto, what price can I expect to pay with no options?

As for stamp duty, who should pay that? Me or the dealer? Usually when I negotiate a price
its all included, should I neg with out stamp duty? and tell them to cover that?

Any tips will be appreciated,

thanks!

------------
Edit: It will also be going under a company name

mate my advice is be rude... i was and my hilux is the first one grand motors toyota gold coast has sold and not made money on. They didnt tell me but i later met the owners of the dealership and once we joined all the dots they didnt like me anymore... :(

also worth looking into is if its going into a company there are rebaits for new commercial company cars. and you can somethimes get tax deductable running costs i.e fuel, service, tyres ect.

Hope this helps cheers Sam

In late 06 when i was buying mine (dualcab sr5 diesel manual) i got prices from 6 or seven dealerships within a couple of hours drive of canberra and from the dearest to the cheapest was over $5k differance for the exact same truck with no options, i told them all straight, that i was going to get prices from a number of dealers and i wanted there best price and i would NOT be back to bargin with them if they weren't the cheapest, i didn't tell them what other dealers i was going to or had been to or what the best price i had so far was (and they all wanted to know) if i had i have no doubt they would have just said they will match it or better it buy stuff all.

Don't expect big discounts, yes the car industry is doing it hard.

It all depends whats around at the time of ordering.

Manufactures are reducing what the import so the down side is if there is a demand for their product they are going to ask top dollar.

The only way you will get big discounts is if it is an old stock vehicle or something that is not selling well.

Take for example we bought a October 2008 plated FG Falcon XR6 Turbo ute last month and saved $9000 (the dealer had it in stock), at the moment we are looking at upgrading our Subaru....there are 5 Subaru's in Subaru Australia's holding yard in Sydney that fits our criteria and the best we can save on a 2008 plated is $3700 on a $60,000 car as Subaru Australia is only going to import vehicles when orders are placed with a 2 to 3 month wait.

If we were looking at a lower end Subaru we could save more.

Like anything demand drives prices up....even in hard times.

With fleet savings most of the manufactures and dealers have reduced their discounts .

The best thing is try and find a dealer who has a 2008 plated or demo in stock.

Expect to pay more with less of a discount for most things from now on as manufactures and resellers are trying to make as much money as they can at the moment to recover lost income or just survive.

In our business we are making more profit now then before, not because we want to rip people off but it's a case of we have to to survive and continue to pay our staff good money and keep them employed.

We are already starting to see other company's in our industry showing signs of suffering due to low profits and discounting,we deal with medium to large company's who understand that if they pay more for a product or service the company they are supporting is going to stay around and ride out the current financial climate.

This is the stuff most people don't see or are exposed to in ideal world.

It is really a bigger problem then most people care to think.

General Motors got $17 Billion in December and another $22 Billion last month from the US Govt.....there is talk at the moment if they don't get more funding they could fold in as little as 2 months.....YES 2 MONTHS...that scary shit!

Anyway thats enough of my ranting...

Hey simon i'm in the same boat i'm going to start shopping around soon.I almost updated 8months ago and i got prices from all over Aus .Here in Perth with a few options SR5 Dual-Cab Diesel Auto best price i got on road was $54 500 it ranged up to $56 000. Out of Melbourne i got the best prices and they started around the 50k mark on road but you then have to get the car here and transfer it here there still is a saving but not really that much. This time i might look at optioning a sr model not really sure whats the difference is apart from aesthetics and spending the extra savings on the vehicle.

If you shop around you will find what you are after. with toyota its most likley if you want a good price it will be white however i got a black 08 upgrade xcab 4x4 d4d with rihno liner in the tub tow bar tint and nudge bar they quoted $58,000 we finished up at $48,650 not too bad ey and that was early november. however i do agree with olcoolone in that if you support companies and inderviduals at the moment they will support you and its important to save but you have to leave something in it for them.

Cheers Sam

I agree, ring around and see what dealers have in stock and are trying to move. I got prices varying by 12 grand for my dual cab diesel auto SR. Ended up with a deal I was happy with, delivered to my body builder, with tint, seat covers, floor and dash mats thrown in to sweeten the deal. Also managed to sell them back the styleside body and the rims & tyres.

Get yourself an ABN number. You can register these for free, make up a company name and then you get an ABN discount. That will save you a couple of grand on a commercial vehicle.

it is an xtra cab diesel sr5... if i were to buy an sr5 dual cab diesel i would not pay more than $50,000 and for that i would expect a few extras like tint and towbar.

i can get some local prices from around here so you can take them to your local dealer and tell them to match it. if that helps.

Cheers Sam

Hey, if you got dealers that will go that low and its no problem to you that would be great help to me as
I cant really find anything below 55k drive away.

Mate i have spoken to my dealer he has informed me that you are better off getting the 08 upgrade model rather than an 09 you will save around $4500 due to the economy. with all your extras on an 09 the best he can do is $59000 (very steep) however on an 08 upgrade (looks the same and has the same features) he can do one for $53990 but i recon i could push harder and get a better deal.

If i can be of any more assistance just post it here or pm me.

cheers Sam :D
