2WD Driving Style Question

This is a real amateur question I would imagine but I have a 2011 SR 2WD Toyota Hilux 3.0D Manual

Obviously without low range trying to climb slowly up steeper hills is hard as the bus wants to either stall, or you find your self riding the clutch if you are trying to remain at low speeds. So its usually results in just hitting it with speed...

I am predicting the answer to this is to buy a 4WD with Low Range, but is there any way of being able to achieve slower climbs in first gear without the stalls and riding of the clutch?

throttle controller, tune, remapping, low range in a 2WD?

Any advice would be much appreciated

How deep are your pockets? Clutches are consumables... you could put diff lock into to help along with a regear but all that costs money. There could be the space for a transfer - I saw a r151f gearbox with transfer on ebay for $1100 the other day. Just ignore the front output.

I think practice helps the most. Little things like getting tyre pressure down also go a long way as well.

Is the hill on private property? You can use reverse instead of first. The other thing is if you can keep it in first (DON'T CHANGE UP GEARS) and keep your rev's at around 2 to 2 1/2 thou'. It'd be slow and steady, but keeping those rev's up should prevent the stall. A little bit of weight in the back will also help your traction. If you've got a spray unit then all you need to remember is that 1 litre of water is 1 kilogram of weight. around 150 to 200 litres should help. Don't forget tires, good tread makes a big difference too.
