Mike, ask the dealer if it has logbooks and check the frequency of servicing. That might tell you if the vehicle has been regularly serviced or if it is a vehicle with a smash-repair history. I was referred to the previous owner of the last 2nd hand vehicle I bought and the dealer was happy to provide their contact details. Also, some years ago I traded a Pajero on a new commodore and the Pajero only had 11 thousand ks and brand new off-road tyres and the dealer referred the next buyer to me to ask why it had new tyres and low kms. I reassured him it was genuine and I just traded because my circumstances had changed and I needed a commodore instead of the Pajero.
I might add, the new buyer called me as soon as I arrived home, and bought the car the afternoon that I traded it. No they're not always too good to be true, but sometimes they are!
