Metal Rubbing Noise on Deceleration

Postby flednanders88 on Wed, 26 Feb 2020 8:03 +0000

G'day lads, just bought myself a dualcab hilux SR and it's now developed a high pitch metal rubbing noise.

This usually happens on deceleration and when accelerating after having decelerated. I have yet to check the brakes but I don't think it should be the issue as it has just passed RWC less than 3 weeks ago.

Do you have any ideas or prior experiences? And yes I will check the brakes on the weekend.

Thank you! Video attached below!

i had a screeching metal noise from the front left of my '09 SR when decelerating, similar to yours except mine varied in pitch slightly according to road speed:

-was at low speeds only, like 10kmh roughly, brakes on/off didnt change it
-commonly after a longer drive or warmer weather
-never happened in wet, or if id just sprayed the bottom of the car with water
-thought it was brakes or hub
-when it was bad one day, eventually got someone to drive it and i ran along side to work out which wheel it was coming from, it was front left.
-pulled brakes off, no signs of anything bad.
-eventually the front left axle diff seal leaked. I pulled the CV and then the seal, which had clear signs of mud in it, put new Toyo seal in, diff oil back in, and the noise went away permanently.

im pretty sure it picked up some sloppy mud the same day i took my forum profile pic, and thats what did it lol. that pic is YURRS old.

hope this helps
