Tint - Gaps OK?

Postby harrylicious on Tue, 21 Jan 2020 1:03 +0000

Hey team,

Just had the lux tinted and just need a collective opinion if I'm being too picky or not.

There are some other issues that I will need fixed (including a big hair under the tint on one window lol), but I am not sure about the gaps along the edge of the back windows. It is hard to see in the pics, but there is a gap of about 4 or 5mms along the front edges. The black rubber on the inside of the window means its not massively obvious, but I have checked a few other Hiluxes and they don't seem to have it. Obviously its all I can see now!!

Am I being too pedantic on this?

I don't think you're being picky! Mate I'd take it back, that's a dodgy job!

Unacceptable. You could have done better yourself.

Thanks for that.

So I am assuming everyone else's tint on the back windows goes right to the edge (or very close to) of the glass?

The best tinting I have ever had done was on my XE Falcon Ute when i rebuilt it. The glass come out, was washed and cleaned and taken to the tint shop and tinted right through the edges.

IF your REALLY, REALLY, REALLY keen, your could do that I suppose???

We had a freak incident in our workshop ages ago. screwdriver had fallen into the hoist mechanism in one bay and when they let the car down it flew out like a bullet.

Anyway it got the rear side window of a brand new Hilux (not even registered) so I got to take it to the dealership for its replacement window and re-tint.

I watched the guy tint the window and he had that glass out of the car completely tinted and back in the car in about 20min or so.

So what’s this tell me? Tells me whoever did your tint is dodgy and lazy as mate. Especially with the hair under the tint also that’s totally unacceptable.

I have never had any window of any vehicle with a gap like that.
I have also seen massive windows (I’m talking giant 5k tractor windows) that are glued in with better tint then that. And they have a seam in it because no one makes tint film that big.
