Cutting down factory alloy/aluminium tray

Postby ben_bass69 on Mon, 06 Jan 2020 8:42 +0000

Anybody cut down a factory alloy/aluminium single or extra cab tray to fit a dual cab? Just after any photos or opinions on how difficult it is?

Got a single cab tray I’m looking at buying, thinking of cutting 600mm off the front and 300mm off the back to make it 1500mm long. Tray came off a 2018 hilux and will be going onto a 2009, from what I’ve read it will bolt straight up except for the mounts just behind the cab?

The triple M trays are bolted together. The only cutting needed is to the side rails, and "chassis" rails. The two under the tray, NOT the ones on yer car.

And the mudflaps relocate by bolts too, so you dont need to touch the front. Start from the rear..

Other brands may be riveted. Drill the rivets and replace with bolt and nylok nut. Got a pic of the tray your looking at?

Would be a lot easier if it only needed cutting at one end! Not sure what brand it is but it has the Toyota sticker on the back...

True I'm not familiar with the new model trays but that is a triple M tray. Headboard to taillights everything is bolted together.
I've modded a few to suit single cab and extracabs and trailers, and I still have a few of the 150mm slats that the tray is made up with.
