Hello,
Was just wondering when replacing the water pump do you usually replace the housing at the same time? Or just the pump itself.
Cheers.

Fairly big job which is usually done when you do the timing belt. That's because you have to remove the whole timing belt cover (front and rear) to get the single piece pump assembly off.

The one shown in the link is the newer 2 piece unit that replaces the original 1 piece part that was fitted.
Replacing the timing belt , tensioner, and belt pulley, is a separate job from the water pump, however, in order to get the original 1 piece pump off, you have to pull off the timing belt cover ( front and rear) to get access to the bolts that hold the water pump on.
The timing belt replacement is a fairly easy job, because you only need to remove the front cover. Getting the water pump off is a whole new ball game requiring the removal of the timing belt cam pulley so you can get the rear cover off.
I expect if you were told the timing belt was done, thats all they would have done, because its pretty easy.
The timing belt fitted should be fine to put back on, just check for wear and contamination from oil leaks etc. They are a cheap item anyway. so go for a new one.
Plenty of info on this site about the best way to do the job.
