2012 SR5 intermittent throttle fade

Postby TweedSteve on Thu, 14 Nov 2019 2:25 +0000

G'day crew. I've not posted before but can't seem to find a thread on my 2012 SR5 throttle fade. I bought a pretty smick auto (no mod's) with 65,000 on the clock in 2015 and after a few weeks I felt a short throttle fade (best way that I can describe it). At first thought it was just the thong slipping off the pedal, but later with boots on same thing. Only lasts for about 1-2 secs but that could be be an issue when I get enough experience to do some more serious off roading towing a 1.5 tonne Kimberley camper trailer. I've had a Steinbauer fitted for last 2 years hoping to get some more grunt without risking the "hot chip" stuff the young crew fit for racing around the bush, but have not noticed a great improvement and the 4 speed auto goes fishing a lot still. Also hoped it might fix the throttle lag but has made no difference. Anyone else had this issue or have a suggestion as to what causes it?

Mate, can't help you, but ... isn't the Tweed Coast fantastic!

I too am in the 2489 zone.

Have you had the guys at Potty mechanics in Elizabeth street look at it?

Yeah mate MAF sensor and MAP filter may both need a clean. Lots of info on the fourm about both. Good luck with it.
I love my ute but not as much as my dashound does!!
I just put a 3 inch exhaust on the ute, now the D4D sounds like a V4!!!

Thanks for your responses guys. I've had my Hilux serviced at Potty Autos for yonks but they didn't have any luck with throttle lag.
I will give the two points mentioned a going over and clean to see what happens. No other technical advice forthcoming suggests that this may not be a widespread Hilux problem...?
